I don't understand it and it makes for an uncomfortable experience. Dude is at least 65 years old. Yesterday starting snapping his clubs on 16. Leaves the group while everyone else is putting on 18 and proceeds to make all kinds of racket in the parking lot as he breaks all of the remaining clubs. Leaves, comes back with a trailer and gets his cart out the shed and takes off again. He had a good set of clubs with a new Callaway Driver and 3 wood not 2 months old. Putter was a scotty cameron.

That dumbass saved a lot of money if he's quitting golf.

Breaking clubs or throwing clubs in anger is a deal breaker for me . . . I would not play with them again. I’ll put up with a lot of shite on the golf course but not that.

throwing clubs

We call this, "kicking up silver pheasants". Saw a guy over at Dancing Rabbit toss his down in the un-mown valley on a par 3 and then we he had to wait as he went down there to find it.

Equipment is too expensive to throw or break.

Yep. Same thing I'm teaching my son right now. He's 17 and just got into the game. Gets pissed after bad shots. I asked him how much he practices his game. Never. Then why are you getting mad about bad shots? You haven't earned that right yet. Chuckle, shake your head and focus on the next shot.

That’s crazy I’ve never seen anyone do that.

It’s recreation and you’re not that good, calm down and go hit your next shot.

A guy we had at Fort Bend CC was always breaking clubs.

One time he threw a iron up into a tree and it stuck. He went home and made a homemade grappling hook on a rope.

He throws it up and it get stuck, so he pulls hard on it and a limb comes down and takes out the windshield on his cart.

That club stayed up in the tree for months until we had a big storm...

I have a buddy who never practices putting. Lines up crooked, stroke is wobbly and misses. Then why are you getting pissed you miss everything?

I one time broke my driver shaft after a slice that wasn’t as bad as a thousand slices I’d hit before. I think I had some other shite built up in my mind outside of golf that was getting to me. I didn’t break it over my leg, but kind of forced it into the ground with a lot of built up anger and the shaft buckled out. I apologized to the group and didn’t say a word the rest of the round, I felt stupid for subjecting others to it. I shouldn’t have brought that energy to the course with me that day.

People are crazy.

I fished a wedge and a putter out of a pond.

Might should have explored further. Maybe the whole bag was in that pond.

Had a friend, very calm quiet guy,was having a bad day. Hit a shot to go over a pond. Topped it, ball goes sploosh. He calmly walked to the cart, put his club back in the bag, took the bag off the cart, walked back to the pond and tossed the whole kit and kaboodle into the water. Helluva throw. Got in his cart, went home and never touched another club. Took up sport pistol shooting. He’s a Dr. So money didn’t bother him.

Addendum: about two years later someone tried to carjack his wife in their own driveway. He came out the house and put 2 in the crook. Killed him. No charges. Jackson MS

Oh hell yeah. If I’m playing by myself, I just totally berate myself, but I actually have a pretty calm demeanor when playing with others.

Bad shot by myself: You no talent piece of shite, why do you even play this dumb fricking game. Go on and blast the next motherfricker into the trees too.

With others: Oh no, don’t go over there. Guys I need to hit another.

About the most I’ll do to equipment is sling a wedge back towards the cart after a bad chip. Not tomahawk chunk it, just a quick little slider along the ground.

Used to play with a guy that would hit his driver so hard into the ground that it seemed louder than the club hitting the ball.

Most I’ve ever done was toss a sand wedge across the bunker after about 5 bad shots in a row. Clubs are too expensive to just be snapping left and right and as mentioned not near good enough to be that pissed.

I have had the strong urge to slam a club on the ground after a bad shot, but never done it. Have gotten alot better about it too as I've played more. Started to realize that you are ruining the rest of your round by being that angry. Not to mention that a round or two of golf is about the only relaxing time I get throughout the week. Might as well not stress out over a bad shot.

I had 2 friends on separate occasions threw almost every club in their bag in the woods while playing bad(both times were at Briarwood). One wanted another set and one never played again.
I broke a club once by throwing it on the ground, felt bad about that so now I have to remind myself that I am not good enough to get mad enough to throw or slam a club.

yep

I don’t practice at all. I play very little. It ain’t the clubs fault.

How someone handles being bad at golf says a lot about them as a person.
