My old Country Club use to do this twice a year where you could hit two balls if you wanted or needed.

It was flighted by handicaps and it was a lot of fun.

When it was hot outside you had to pace yourself or it could be tough getting through 18 holes.

The money pot could get up there and we always had a BBQ or fish fry afterwards.

I play a One man scramble on every first tee box.

I've done it for 9 holes. My club calls it a Bubba scramble. It's a pretty fun format.

If you want to get better, play this format, but take your worse shot each time.

I’ve played in a few. The rule for the one I’ve played is that if you take the second shot, then you have to play it . . . the first shot is no longer an option. This adds a little more fun to it as it will add a little more pressure to yourself.

I've been in & around golf for 60 years. I've never heard of the event, much less played in one. The various formats described in the thread sound like fun.

That sounds awesome. I have never played that but I agree I think it would add more pressure on the second shot with the first not being an option. I may try and do this with our foursome one day.

This. I was shocked at how tired & lazy my swing was at the end of day 1. I didn’t hit 2 drives unless I had to on the second day

Yes we played it both ways at the Club.

Our Pro would alternate it because the high hcp guys would always want the two ball option.

I remember one guy jacked both drives OB on the 3rd hole. He didn't say a word, just got in his cart and left the club lol...

Never in any sort of organized tournament, but I have played 2 balls while just playing.

I had about 2 months off (planned) between Grad school and my starting to work. I used to go out to City Park and play the West course during the day on weekdays when there was very little traffic. One day when virtually no one on the course, I asked the starter if I could play 2 balls. He looked around and said I could, but if someone came up behind me I would either have to quit the 2 balls or let that person/group play through. I couldn't do it every day because some days the course had enough people playing that it was impossible to do. But, I did get a few rounds in like that.

One day while playing 2 balls, there were very few players on the course and I saw a guy came up behind me. I decided to let him play through so that I could continue my 2 ball play. When he got up to the tee I was going to let him play through on he asked me why I was letting him play through. I told him what I was doing and he became intrigued and asked if he could join me. Even though that may have been the first and only time I had been playing golf solo and I was actually enjoying it, I told him "Sure."

Turns out the guy was a very young looking 50 year old black dude (I was about 26) and he had just retired from NOPD. It also turned out that our golf games were very compatible from a speed of play standpoint.

My uncle had been a cop and I heard a lot of his stories so we would exchange stories while playing. He had some of the best/funniest stories I've ever heard.

We wound up setting up a regular weekday tee time and we played together for the next month or so. We played 2 balls whenever the course traffic would allow.

I hadn't thought about that (25 years ago) until I saw the title of this string.

Just so I understand correctly:

I can play two balls for every shot, but once I choose to play the second shot I have to finish with that ball. The next hole I’m back to two shots. Do you also get two putts?
So, really you can only improve your hole by one shot, correct?

Would be fun.

If you're on the tee box and your first drive ends up in the rough, if you choose to hit again you have to take the second shot regardless. If you hit the second driver OB you can't go back and say "I'll use the first ball I hit into the rough".

I do this on the putting green. Hit several balls, and then try to sink the worst one. I think it helps build confidence and puts a little pressure on you to not leav'em short.

This is correct … you always have the option to hit a second shot but you have to take it.

If your first putt ends up on the lip and you think you can make it with a second attempt and run it by 4 feet, then you have to make the 4 foot putt … that one you left on the lip was voided by your second attempt.

That correct and you do this all the way thru the hole.

If you wanted to, you could hit 36 tees shots, 36 second shots and on and on...

That's why I said you have to pace yourself.

I played in one of these with a partner. 2 man teams, each man playing a 2 ball scramble, taking the best team score on the hole.

Took freaking forever
