Adult golf fans are letting their social media persona become their real life identity

Bethpage RC was embarrassing with people letting social media ridiculous stories become reality with what they yelled at Rory, and now with Clark at the US open was a fricking joke
I don’t like Clark and berate him here and cheer against him. But this isn’t real. At the actual course I would clap for his good shots and never yell or boo. Because I know this site isn’t real
But good lord people are taking social media shite posting to a real life level at concerning amounts.

Fans are only privy to a very small sliver of a golfer's life to make a judgement on who to root for, so you can't blame them when they see Wyndham tearing up historical locker rooms and throwing temper tantrums and then display their allegiances accordingly.
Some of the fan interactions are over the top, but Clark can only blame himself for the hate. He might've won some fans back this weekend though.

Your post is 100% what’s wrong with people. You don’t have to like Clark, I certainly don’t. But you 100% without a doubt do have control over acting like a civilized adult, nothing Clark did makes you act like a good many assholes did this weekend

... which is why I said "some of the interactions are over the top". I agree with you, but also, Clark brought the hate on himself and he admitted as much in the post-round interview

But my point is why he is disliked doesn’t matter. Once you act like an a-hole it’s on you not Clark. It’s irrelevant. People have lost complete touch and the internet has become real life to them

Also Clark 100% was doing shady shite yesterday
He still is unlikable as hell to me

never watched a sporting event in New York? always been tons of arrogant assholes up there. I would never boo a golfer regardless of my distaste for them, but I'm not surprised it's happening

There are people who have been in golf for 40 plus years saying Bethpage and now Shinnecock were completely outlandish , and they have seen more New York golf fans than me and you combined

Something really needs to be done . The people yelling out random nonsense is bad enough and shouldn’t be allowed. Berating players is even worse and has gotten out of hand.

Golf crowds these days fricking suck.
Also frick Wyndham Clark. Dude is a big time weirdo.

quote:Completely acceptable to say this here. If you go to the course in person and say this to him while he is playing golf you should be thrown into a pit full of sharks with laser beams on their head

Normally the golfers cheating videos never do it for me and they just seem like stuff made by guys that don't like a player. Even one of the Patrick Reed bunker "cheating" videos never seemed that bad to me. It was like a camera zoomed in 20x and it shows the bottom of his club barely touch the sand. So light that he wouldn't have even noticed much less given him an advantage.
But I saw that Wyndham stomping on the grass video last night by a dude on Tik Tok and was like wtf dude. He is clearly flattening ground behind his ball. He tests it with his club, which is allowed, but you can tell that test tells him it's a pretty bad lie so he steps past the ball and stomps it down to improve it. Plenty of guys push the ground down behind the ball with their club harder than they should but it's almost like it's a given guys are going to do that so it's not penalized, but this one was bad. He legit stomps the ground down.
I watched the post round interview and some press conference clips and I really liked the stuff he was saying talking abopout winning back fans and took the booing pretty well. But then I saw that video and got pissed at him all over again.

Not a Clark fan either but found it hard to enjoy watching with all the BS being shouted at him. Watched a little of the post to see how he addressed it, he took it on the chin very well

I remember questioning all of those practice swings when it was happening live. The main one in question for me was when he stepped forward and took a sing way to the right (looking at the hole) of his ball.
I agree with pride on this, though. Say what you want on a message board, but leave it there. I am fine with people not really clapping for Wyndham when he did good things, though. Just don't do negative things.
