IF I’m green side attempting a delicate short side flop from 15 yards from the pin over a bunker, I can get about 235 out of my 58 degree wedge.
I’ve thought of teeing off with it just picturing the flop, but “flighting” it down by “using” the blade.

185 is just swinging, nothing special. 190 is extending the back swing 1-2 inches. 205 is actually coming down and trying to hit the ball hard, I'm also hitting a draw if I'm hitting it 205. You got a realize, I played Mizuno MP32's for 20 years and I still play them in the 8-PW. The loft on the PW is 47 degrees. So if I play w new schoolish lofts and have AI tech on the face, it's a cheat code.
205 on the course, I'm generally hitting a pretty comfortable 6 iron. The 7 iron only comes out at that distance in a few different circumstances. If you all can't squeeze an extra 15-20 out of most of your clubs, you are probably swinging a little bit too hard on your stock swings. I genuinely don't swing my irons hard 85-90% of the time. That's why I can easily add distance to them if I need to.

If the pin is at the front of the green, a 5. If the pin is at the back, a 6. If the pin is in the middle, depends on if long or short is a better miss.

You’ve got talent.
I assume you are a plus handicap index.
Where did you play in college?
Did you try the pro tours?

Same here. Also replaced 6i with 6H.
For 190 with no hazard, 4H. 5H to lay up if there is a hazard.

I tried out and was a walk on for 1 year at an SEC school, lost love of the game tbh. Didn't play for a decade after. I play 10 golf rounds a year now and hit range balls 1 time a week. If you watch YouTube Golf, I play a lot like Garrett Clark. He's a better putter. I hit more fairways. But his rounds generally have quite a bit of variance, as do mine. I've shot a 62. I'm also capable of shooting 86. It's a tough game. There are many levels to it. I can hit the ball far, but consistentcy over 2,3, 4 tournament rounds is difficult.
There are a lot of plus handicaps and longish ball hitters that just can't cut it in the current pro/mini tour golf landscape. I might be an upper 1% golfer, but I'm in the bottom 99% of that 1% and I accept that.
I wasn't trying to flex distance tbh. There are plenty of people that I know and play with that hit their 7 iron a similar distance to me. To me, those are relatively normal numbers. I have my stock numbers, but I also keep a little extra in my back pocket if the situation calls for it. I also enjoy hitting less than stock shots. Just depends on the situation and what is working for me. For example, in any given round, I might hit my 54 degree 130 on one hole and on the very next hole, I might pull my 47 degree PW from 105 yards. I just enjoy playing golf like that.

This is my process as well. Im trying to land it where the fat part of the green is, dont even pay attention to the pin unless its on a course with bigger greens.

Strong 7 that I mis-hit or easy 6 that I mis-hit. Either way I'm following up with a SW most likely.

I actually got my 6 iron there a few times but it was a perfect shot.
Kind of want an easier swing.

That's one thing I don't understand about the golf community, especially the people that have been playing this game for 20 plus years.
A) equipment improvements
B) fittings becoming more common
C) people are bigger and stronger than in the past
D) some people have fast twitch athletic backgrounds outside of golf
E) most people can generally improve contact and distance with practice
F) Sim tech offering instant feedback and data on each shot
G) Internet has a ton of information on how to gain distance among other things
H) average sized baw of 5ft 9, 160 pounds vs bigger baw at 6ft 2, 210 pounds (or even larger). The bigger baws, with the longer arms are typically effortlessly able to add on distance from stock, bc they don't have to do that much to generate average clubhead speed with their levers. It's not a difficult concept.
I think it just boils down to jealousy and ego at the end of the day.
I am a bit surprised that IHighway dude is always talking about playing golf tournaments and he can't conceive someone hitting a 7 iron 205 yards. Must not be serious comp out there if that number baffles you. And again, I'm not a numbnuts trying to hit that number every time I swing the club.
If the back of the green is 205-210 and the front is 185, then 7 is the club. If I hit 6, I risk hitting it over the green into bunkers, water, etc. It's just simple course management baw.

Lofts have definitely changed over the years and so have shaft lengths.
I still play some old Mizuno MX-23 irons. Comparing those to today's Qi irons is crazy:
Club MX/Qi:
3 20/na
4 23/18.5
5 26/21
6 29/24
7 33/28
8 37/32
9 41/37
PW 46/43
I use a 5i for a 190 shot but need to hit it well. In today's lofts, I'd be hitting a strong 7/light 6 to 190?! Wtf lol. No wonder everyone sounds like they're freaking PGA professionals talking about iron distances these days.
