Greetings,

What are some of your go to ways to get games from the older model consoles? Do you all just eBay them? A friend told me he has luck's at thrift stores and yard sales. What about you all?

Ebay has been my go to in the past. Bigger selection and you can pay more for cleaner or better taken care of games if you want. Thrift stores and garage sales are going to get you really good deals though if you have the patience, and it's generally more fun.

I got away from it all for the most part though. It's just too much of a hassle and I'm not a stickler for the original hardware like enthusiasts and speedrunners are. I'm not going to sell or get rid of my stuff or anything, but I just run an emulator when I want to play something old.

When I was still collecting snes I would hit the local goodwill / Salvation Army type stores to look for games in bulk. You would rarely find anything rare but it was a good way to get a good deal on a lot of common games at once.

I also heard that's a good way to get Legos. Thrift stores would sometimes get buckets of them donated.

I go to game oldies, it is a website that has most 32 bit and below playable in browser. Any console.

I amassed my collection through years of garage sales in the 90s. Local mom and pop game stores are a good place to look now if not online. Unfortunately, the prices now are high and only worth it if you want physical cartridges.

Otherwise the emulator route may be the best route.

We still play RBI Baseball and Mike Tyson’s. I’ve had to get a replacement for RBI and it was on eBay

Ebay is the most consistent yet priciest method. Also, does your town have a retro games store?

Outside of those methods, thrift stores then yard sales. Both methods are a crap shoot, but I've found good stuff.

My local thrift store sells PS2 games for $1.00 a piece. I got 15 games (albeit without cases) for 15 dollars. That included some pretty good stuff like Gran Turismo 3 and 4.

I don't typically go to yard sales, but I did find a bunch of sega genesis games at one once.

I’d say Amazon is the priciest option. Ebay can have some cheaper ones at times.

There’s also sites like Mercari
