I'm not really big into gaming, but I do like video games once in a while. I've had every Playstation up to ps3, all nintendos up to wii, and I have a raspberry pi. I'm not really big into online gaming, but like sports and rpm/fps offline. I know alot has changed since ps3 and wii. What would be my best option? I'm open to switch, ps, and Xbox.

We're pretty much at the point now where PS4/Xbox are interchangeable. They mostly have the same games(PS4 has a bit more exclusives with the Japanese style of games and Xbox with their Halo's/Gears of War) and some are even becoming "cross-platform". I would say pick whichever online style you like better(Playstation network or Xbox Live) and which controller you like the best. I know that both have some 3rd party controllers that bridge the gap, but I've always been a fan of the xbox controller over the Playstation, to each their own I guess. Nintendo systems are geared more towards kids in some regards, but now that most of us have grown up on Mario and Zelda(or even Pokemon), I think the Nintendo systems are pretty fun. Being into sports games or FPS style, I'd go with either a PS or Xbox system. Keep in mind that there are new systems on the horizon, but no confirmed release dates yet.

I have owned both an Xbone and a PS4 and would recommend buying whichever system your friends have if you have any friends that game. That’s the sole reason I got a PS4 and I don’t plan on purchasing another Xbox, but will go with a PS5.

Agree, PS4

Then trade in for PS5 in December

It's really no question, the exclusives on PS4 are generational games.

That is WAY underselling PS4's exclusives advantage

PS4 exclusives are really damn good. Only downside is the console is near the end of its life cycle and PS5 will start encroaching on the games developers start putting out.

Wouldn’t touch an Xbox unless you’re just gonna specifically play sports games cause their foreseeable future is just as grim as this past generation. No exclusives and game pass is the only decent thing they have.

Nintendo switch is really underpowered compared to the other 2 by a lot, but if you choose it, I think you’d find the mobility actually comes in handy from time to time. I owned a PS4 and sometimes loathed having to prematurely put it down because of whatever people had to use the room for.

At the end of the day it comes down to PS4 and the Switch, which both have pretty nice exclusives top to bottom. Marvel Ultimate Alliance for the switch was a real head scratcher ngl as well as Astral Chain but I guess that’s the trade off for Nier. Just choose what fits your taste.

The only real reason you'd get an Xbox over a PS4 is because of the master chief collection, if you don't have access to a PC that can play it.

The PS4 bent over the Xbox one this generation.

Yeah, probably. I was being very general. Find what games you like and get the system that goes with it.

Save your money and buy a system when the next gen systems come out at the end of the year. If you just have to get a system RIGHT NOW, I'd go with the Switch. Based on your stated intent of being more casual with the gaming, I think it fits you better anyway.

This board is very pro-Playstation, but between it and XBox I'd give the edge to XBox, especially with the next gen console. People are overselling the current gen exclusives on Playstation, and Microsoft has been buying up game creators left and right.

LINK

Since mid-2018, they've purchased Ninja Theory, Undead Labs, Compulsion Games, Playground Games, inXile Entertainment, and Obsidian Entertainment. That's a large number of companies that just handle video games to be purchasing in under a year and a half. It's clear this was a strategic decision, and you should expect them to purchase more before the new system is released.

The correct answer would be to wait until release dates for the PS5/Xbox Series X are announced. Odds are they will be backwards compatible with the previous gen anyway.

As per the part I highlighted, I disagree that they are interchangeable. Sony has far more exclusives this gen.

Third party games do run/look better on the One X than the PS4 Pro, but again, at this point, I couldn't justify buying either of those systems.

Waiting on tech, esp one with a possiblity of limited library at launch , is always a bad idea. We don't know which titles will be backwards compatible at launch.

Buy now to play current library, trade in at launch of new systems or when ready.

Never wait on tech.

Look above.

This guy is wanting something soon and you ppl telling him wait a year.

It's not like he wants to upgrade from a base PS4 to a Pro. He doesn't have a system (PC or console).

Xbox has already stated that we shouldn't expect to see any Series X games that do not work on the Xbox One for at least 1 year, possibly two, after launch of the system.

PS4's exclusives aren't even really staying on PS4 - at least not all of them. PC getting Death Stranding this year and apparently Horizon Zero Dawn. More and more things are coming to PC... in fact PC is just the better way to go period.

XBOX for multi-media

I've never bought consoles on the back end of their life cycle. I think I got every system I've ever had at release.

Switch actually looks interesting in regards to game play and more availability of in person multi-player.

I'm used to Playstation, so I'm sure that would be easy.

I'm not sure what Xbox would do multi media wise that isn't accomplished by roku, Apple TV, etc.

I may just wait a bit, but I also may snatch up a switch in the mean time!

Incorrect

They did a 10 year study, and found that 97% of Playstation users have had a penis in their mouth before the age of 18.

Xbone was less than 4%
