I agree that ME2 is the BEST/my favorite if we ignore release period. Deus Ex in 2000 was more impressive/groundbreaking than ME2 in 2010.

It is tough to try and compare the groundbreaking effect each game had following its release but the original Deus Ex was really to first to create a game atmosphere that really sucked you in.

I really don't get all the love for FFX. It was too linear, didn't like the sphere grid that much, and personally I thought the story was pretty forgettable. Auron was cool though.
FFVIII I liked, but still don't understand the ending. The other thing that made it not as great was the draw system. I always ended up sitting in a fight drawing until I got 100 of a spell and never used it.
FFVII on the other hand was the best in the 3D era in my opinion. The materia system was the shite, and the storyline was great. I was shocked in that one scene... and pissed. Had never seen that happen in a game before.

Was Street Fighter 2 not big out there? It was absolutely huge in AZ! I remember riding my back to Circle K and playing it for hours at a time for almost a year. It will always be my favorite game ever!!! The only game that comes close is Plants Vs Zombies!

Battlefield 2

For me it's Assassin's Creed 2 & Brotherhood. While two seperate games, it's basically just one long story.
It's a combination of the location, story and characters. I love the perfect blend between history, fiction and religion. I love that I'm not seeing a snapshot of the hero's life, but actually following from the beginning to the end. I'm looking forward to Revelations!
My runner up would be GTA SA. Loved the music and the insane amount of things to do.
