MKWii is terrible about having people who suck do better and punishes people who do well.

Change the items to strategic and watch how boring the game gets when it's filled with nothing but red & green shells, bananas and boxes.

Mario Kart 64 owned. You missed out.

Probably best of the series. Least use of catch-up mechanics and the best battle mode out of any other version.

I agree 100%. My main problem with the Wii and Wii U games. They have gotten too easy. I was playing super mario bros U the other day, and it seems almost impossible to not end up with 70 plus 1 ups.

This mode would be totally awesome without the catch-up piece.

Blue shells are no fun. Neither are three reds or Lightning. It's good for four people who don't care, but there's no such thing as a good win when a blue shell is involved.

I never played MKWii much, but I hear that it was pretty terrible with the over abundance of blue shells and rubber banding of position.

I played the hell out of Double Dash on the GCN though and had no issues with Blue Shells in it. Same goes for the MK on the DS.

Nintendo clearly catered to the beginner audience with most of their games on the Wii, but seems to be taking a step back from that on the WiiU. I'm hoping MK8 is a return to older Mario Karts where items made the game fun, but were not unfair.

MKWii gave a lot more control on what items were included, more so than before. As previously mentioned the "Strategic Set" is just green shells, peels and something else.

The rubberbanding problem is the big issue. I used to be able to lap people in MK64, that doesn't happen anymore.

They need to do what they did for the items, Just put an option in the game for "Catch-Up," on or off and I'm good. Otherwise MKWii is quite awesome.

Mehhh I remember playing through the story mode quite a bit. Obviously it was not as good as Mario Kart in multi, but still the story mode was what I will always remember.

No, but I thought there was an option in the settings to mess with that. I may be thinking of another game though. All of the mario karts have rubber banding to some extent.

People always bitch about the bullet until something happens and they're in the back of the pack and get one to push back through. I thought that was the whole point of Mario Kart, you're never out of the race until everyone crosses the finish line. No matter what you always had a chance to get something to catch back up.

Blue shells are there to slow down the leader, because let's face it, if you're out front, the only worry you have is the blue shell. If you're stuck in the pack there is so much crap going on it's hard to break free from getting hit by something. I enjoy playing on aggressive items and just letting the craziness happen. If it wasn't for the outlandish items, I may as well just play a NASCAR racing game.
