No exaggeration I don’t think there has ever been a game that has ever come close to looking this lifelike, it’s actually uncanny.

For those that might not believe it’s legit. The developer tweeted himself opening up the engine and displaying that the gameplay was real Dev tweet

That's insanely realistic, the crispness of the reflections in the water and the smoothness of their movements as the player moved was about as real as it gets. I would be interested in seeing how splashing effects and ripples look.

Looks good, can't wait until it hits a game with a better story

Kind of weird that we can already do some photorealistic murder. VR is going to be wild. Presumably they can map celebrity appearances in to this technology. We're going to have the Deep Space 9 version of the holodeck before long.

It's a technical marvel. It's also so realistic that it's almost off-putting in a way. Makes me wonder if there's a limit to where video games can go before they start losing the escapism aspect.

Obviously there'll be a huge market for games being as realistic as possible, this may have made me realize that I might not be in it though. I wouldn't have really guessed that to this point.

Apply this kind of tech to a sports game and I might be singing a different tune, though.

He is using a very high quality asset for the map which is the main reason it looks very realistic. This one: unrealengine.com/marketplace/en…

He mentioned he is using assets in his old post on reddit. Which explains why the UI is not very good.

He is mostly a programmer. Not an artist.

Making something high quality is very achievable at this time.

That random guy in Twitter is wrong. The devs scanned a real word location (most likely, technically not confirmed) and used it. NERF/Photogrammetry are very important techniques to get such photorealistic graphical fidelity.

If no way out or insurgency adopted a fisheye body cam filter they could probably provide the same level of realism.

The field of view is what kills the FPS genre, it always provides POV equivalent to a gun attached to a drone.

It is kind of genius to use the body cam view to fool the senses, since everyone is used seeing the low quality/resolution product. I’d be curious if starts to feel more like a novelty after a couple rounds.

Not trying to be that guy but at what point do we think it gets TOO real and screws with kids minds

I think that's a battle we've already lost but not because of realism. There are already dudes out there marrying cardboard cutouts of anime girls and AI companionship is only gonna make that a million times worse.

I will admit though even at 31, some of that clip was jarring. I definitely think there's a limit to how immersed you want to be in a gunfight.

Photogrammetry

I learned about this process while looking into the Re-engine and how its able to do insane and impressive things. Much better engine than unreal imo and built in house from ground up to boot, although I realize unreal will have way more widespread general purpose to 95% of devs.

Be careful though i made a thread similar to this recently and the mob came for me.

I’m 42. That was my first thought. You can’t tell me playing that for hours on end can’t start to desensitize a young kid. Or anyone really for that matter.

also 31, and I wouldn’t touch a FPS that looked like that. that’s seal team 6 body cam level real and I want no part of it
