Didn’t realize Vince was part of the Battlefield team. Isn’t he part of Respawn (Titanfall/Apex Legends)? He was on the original Infinity Ward team and developed the original MW series for Call of Duty.

Specialists are also out this time around. "So I wasn't there for 2042. I don't know what the rationale was, but for me, it's like the team tried something new. You have to applaud that effort. Not everybody liked it, but you got to try things. It didn't work. It didn't fit. Specialist will not be coming back. So classes are kind of at the core of Battlefield, and we're going back to that," Zampella says.

Read that about an hour ago. Sounds promising.

Indeed, Head of Respawn & Group GM for EA Studios Organization Vince Zampella is quick to shout out Battlefield 3 and 4 in the course of sitting down with IGN to talk about these new reveals. On the decision to return to the modern era, Zampella says, "I mean, if you look back to the peak or the pinnacle of Battlefield, it's that Battlefield 3... Battlefield 4 era where everything was modern. And I think we have to get back to the core of what Battlefield is and do that amazingly well, and then we'll see where it goes from there. But I think for me, it's that peak of Battlefield-ness is in that Battlefield 3 and 4 days. So I think it's nostalgic for players, for me, for the teams even. Those are kind of the heyday...although I would say 1942 also."

This guy gets it at least.

quote:

It adds up to what one might call classic Battlefield, but bigger — big enough that it merits the efforts of four separate studios in DICE, Motive, Ripple Effect, and Criterion (Ridgeline Games was briefly part of its development before being shuttered after founder Marcus Lehto's departure). EA CEO Andrew Wilson claims it's one of the "most ambitious projects in [EA's] history."

Sheesh 4 studios working on it.

BF3’s peak was so much higher than 4’s.

3/4 to me were both extremely solid..I played on the 4 CTE for years and the shite they *could have brought to the game was solid..

Honestly, a remaster of the two of them lumped into one game and I'd buy it like I buy all the CoDs just for Nuketown

I enjoyed 4 but something about it just didn’t hit on the same level as 3. It’s been so long and I can’t really remember why but if I recall I think the gunplay wasn’t as good and the aesthetic was to my liking either.

I think BF4 was a better game, but I concede the maps on 3 were more memorable. Could just be what BF3 to a lot of gamers, how huge it was and how it went head to head with CoD. Also, I think the progression system on 4 was a little weird and not as clear as it was with 3.

One thing I wish had landed more was the Close Quarters pack with BF3. Was so much fun. I know smaller arenas isn't what people go to BF games for, but I played solo mostly and I felt it was a good blend of BF and CoD. Eventually not enough people were playing them and it was impossible to find a non gun game on those maps.

I wasn’t a huge fan of the bf4 maps. Only one I remember is that flooded map that had the highway on one side and a bunch of concrete buildings. Fun little bird map.

I agree with most of what you said outside of it being better. I do remember the maps being a bit lacking compared to BF3 but they were not bad.

THIS I agree with totally. Me and Bruce did spend some time in CQC and those maps were awesome and the perfect size for the style.

Battlefield 3 is one the best shooters ever made

4 was still very good but not as good as 3. It's been majorly downhill since then.

I don't get going modern again. It's been done ad nauseum. There's plenty of modern shooters out there. Two of the best FPS of all time are BF1 and BF5. Do something historical.

I fully expected you to post a certain picture….

Metro 24/7 was the best 24/7 playlist in any multi game I have played.

looking back, i think my favorite part of BF3 was piloting the Transport helicopter and weaving between buildings to break stinger lock-on

someone else always took the little bird
