We played for a few hours last night basically looking for trouble. When we found ships (mostly sloops) we spent most of our time chasing them around the map. When we found a Galleon, they pussed out and ran. Ship battles are ridiculously difficult.

Crew I found was pretty knowledgeable. We destroyed the other galleons pretty easily. Cannons reload pretty fast, and most people try to rush and board you ignoring their ship dmg.
A battle between two good crews would boil down to who has the most resources.
Played 3 hours and leveled gold hoarders from 3 to 13. We went through 2 bad randoms that only wanted to goof off and RP instead of manning sails, etc so we just brigged them until they quit.
I'm not gonna be playing 6 hrs a day all week but it's definitely a fun casual game until more content goes in. All future Content will be free, so yay?

I was only able to dick around for 30 minutes or so. I am really bad at this game . It was fun though. Will be real fun with a full crew.
I just wish I could actually create my pirate. The random generator is just dumb.

there will always be a better crew, the crew that keeps the wind in their favor and lands the early cannon shots has a big advantage due to not losing a crewman to repair duty

Game was super fun, played all night until 0400 :/
I didn't see a lot of combat, there weren't many other players around, this allowed me to do some quests and cash in, rather than messing around.
I was solo for a bit, so when I ran into a ship of 2 rather than fighting straight up I navy sealed them, parking my boat further off shore, swimming in, stealing their boat and loot while they were on the island, then sinking all of their stuff.
The immense joy of wasting someone else's time well spent is absolutely awesome.

Yeah, it was near the dock/rock so bashed it into everything I could there, stopped a few times to throw off goodies.

I heard if you defeat the kracken, you get treasure. I think its cosmetic stuff for ship???
Also, you can help other boats defeat it.
I watched some kraken battles yesterday, no one killed it, as it took off, before they killed it.
And the ink it lays out makes the water dark as the night.
