I didn't have a gamecube growing up, so I never played Sunshine. I bought 3D All Stars when it first came out but have only touched Mario 64 so far. I decided to fire it back up and try Sunshine, and then Galaxy (same story...never got the Wii so I haven't played this game yet).

I only played Sunshine for 30-60 minutes and got tired of the water cannon mechanic. Does the game get to the point where it's not requiring you to shoot water non-stop or is this the game? If I wanted to play splatoon I'd play splatoon... If there is balance in the game after this intro area then I'll be fine with continuing on.

Fired up Galaxy after getting bored with the water gun and am struggling to get used to navigating the planets/inverted surfaces but am genuinely amazed at Nintendo for being able to accomplish this. I'm actually looking forward to progressing in this one.

the water mechanic in sunshine is trash and detracts from an otherwise good game.

the movement in galaxy is horrible, i never finished it

I agree with your entire post. I bought 3D allstars mostly for Mario 64, but was exited for the others. While I played Galaxy a decent amount, I have no intentions of beating it because the movements around spheres has gotten old, and I can't stand anytime I have to do the touchscreen to various stars. The latter is extremely annoying, but I realize this would be much simpler on a Wii.

I also tried Sunshine for about an hour and stopped because the water cannon was annoying.

I grew up with sunshine (we had a wii that was backwards compatible with GameCube) I love the game besides its flaws.

Very few games can age like Windwaker. Sunshine was fine when it came out. I enjoyed it back then but don't know how the mechanics would hold up or if it was faulty when ported over.

Sunshine was a bust for me given the water cannon mechanics.

Galaxy was game changing. The pure fun of playing with the physics holds up well. The levels are really creative and gameplay is perfect.

Sounds like the water cannon is a permanent fixture for that game. Too bad.

When I play Galaxy I find myself inadvertently twisting and turning my head around . Need to get out of that habit if I wanna get a full playthrough in

There are a bunch of levels in sunshine where the water thing is taken away

Super Mario Sunshine is the black sheep of the 3D Mario titles. I LOVED the game as a kid and loved playing it again when 3D All-Stars came out. I enjoy playing it more than Mario 64 personally.

Galaxy 1 is probably my favorite 3D Mario title though

That makes me wonder is there any 3D Mario game (other than 64) that doesn’t have a gimmick? Sunshine had FLUDD, Galaxy had the planets, 3D worlds had a top down view, and Odyssey had the hat.

Metroid prime was a phenomenal GameCube game. Not Mario, but a lot of similarities (platforming, puzzles, etc). Yall should play it.

The only game I had played previously was mario 64

so I was coming into galaxy and sunshine with fresh eyes. I genuinely enjoyed sunshine and i enjoyed galaxy but I kept waiting for it to get better.

I think a lot of my opinion had to do with people talking about how awful sunshine was and how amazing galaxy was, so I went in with certain expectations that may have tainted my experience of one and exceeded my expectations on another

I too enjoyed mario 64 more than galaxy

I just looked this up because I don’t remember ever hearing about it coming out. The prices online for it are insane. What’s the deal with that?

It's actually genesis for the core mechanic of Splatoon... in reverse.

Limited one time release. It was $50 or $60 when it came out but they aren't making any additional copies of the game and don't have it available anymore on their online shop.

People as usual are being evil and trying to rape on resales.
