That map is really bad. Biggest thing I’ve really picked up on in videos is the insane amount of loading screens. Every single thing you do is preceded by a loading screen. They’re not crazy long or anything but it kinda saps the immersion
People dont have enough time in the game. You can actually go from quest to quest via fast travel without ever using your map. Especially from your ship. If you it "F" in your ship and scan your current quest marker, an option appears "R" to fast travel to said system/location.
In any case, there are already 24 pages of mods on nexus mods, I would bet within the next week we get a good modded map.
BGS's maps have always sucked and the scope of this game highlights it.

thanks for this. I'll check when I can't find something.

Who are you guys liking for companion? I thought I'd be a Sam guy but he insists on having his kid around and that's a dealbreaker for me.
I just finished enough of the story to switch to someone besides blondie. Just met Sam but went back to robot for now.

It is great with some minor issues.
Do the first 5 main missions before branching out too much. Then have at it.
Load screens can be an annoyance, but can be minimized if you learn the UI and how to get around.
Lack of land vehicle is annoying.
Lack of good map is weird, but I am enjoying having to discover things without handholding.
Having a blast, despite any of the issues reported.
ETA: I wasn't looking forward to the flying in space stuff, so I am not bothered that that isn't a huge part of the gameplay so far.

That little shite started telling a joke right when I loaded into a fight against 3 ships. I had to hear it every time I reloaded after dying.

Yep this part is really awesome and not at all difficult.

First two hours didn’t grab me. The subsequent 5 have. Feels less handholdy than I expected and I’m loving that.

I don't understand the ship building at all

I'm having intermittent sound issues and lag when I enter a new area or begin combat. Sometimes sound just glitches out while I'm walking around. Is this a game issue or a hardware issue? Looks like it's using about 12gb of ram while playing. I'm using my HT/Gaming PC, game is installed on my media drive but do I need to install it on my SSD? Do I need to upgrade something/all of my HTPC? It's about 4 years old.
Ryzen 5 3600 3.6ghz
16gb ram
Nvidia GTX 1660 super 6gb
Gigabyte B450 aorus pro
Edit: went ahead and ordered 2x16 pc3200 and an another SSD for game storage dedication.

I tried my hand at it for the first time today, about 15 hours in. I also didn't do well. With some effort you start to understand it.
Mass matters a lot, as too much mass and your engines can't thrust enough and you can't grav jump. You can counter this by adding more engines, but the grav jump is a limiting factor.
Any decent part is gated behind starship design and the parts are expensive, so seems like a future problem for now.

Yes. The requires an SSD as a minimal requirement. It's god awful on a spinner. That's where your freezing is comming from.
Also, the recommended gpu is a 1070ti. It's roughly 20% faster than what you got, so that's where your lag is comming from.

yeah, seems to definitely be a later game activity. I've looked into the ship building to add cargo space, but on the ships I've gotten so far, it's been difficult to find space to add cargo holds without rearranging the whole ship.
right now, I'm not putting too many resources into it since I'm just stealing ships I come across. the Ecliptic mercenaries came after me and after killing them all, I tried to get in the pilot seat to take their ship, but was told I'm not authorized. I guess I need to rank up my piloting skill cause it was a class C ship and pretty badass.

Ya, you have to get piloting to rank 4 to pilot class C ships.

I’ve encountered two ships, one from a random launch pad on a planet and the other at the end of long quest chain. After reaching the hatch to board the ships it said “inaccessible”. I’m not sure if it’s because the ships were higher ranked or if they are always exempt from stealing, but I really wanted both.

Lvl 8 now. The gunplay is so much fun. Shotgun is so fricking right in this game

Jesus christ. I'm on a mission for the uc. When they talk about the side missions being more memorable they were right.

I found a mission line called "Mantis." Not sure how so I imagine it got picked up while I was traveling to the Sol system on the first main questline. This quest is worth doing immediately if you find it. Great gear and weapon rewards and a ship that is better than your starter ship. I cleared the quest at level 10 with no talents into any weapons skills.
ETA: I looked it up. Apparently I either looted a note off a pirate or picked up some kind of radio communication that started this quest.

very worth it!
but uh, don't store your weapons on the weapon racks in the ship. there's a glitch that disappears the guns after you exit the ship.
weapon crates, storage boxes, and cargo hold are fine.
luckily I had a recent save to revert back.
