Dad is old fashioned and doesn't want him to have Internet in his room.
The only way I got Internet in my room in high school was by running a 200 ft Ethernet cable under our house to my room above the garage.

the bundle doesnt apply tax on gamestop right? so if you just order it from amazon, pay no tax on either the console or the game you'd end up saving ~$40?

no, to use it you will need to connect every 24 hours, but if you aren't playing you don't need to connect.

I think the Xbox can't go 24 hours without checking in online. Meaning you can't play across a period of more than 24 hours without getting online.
I have a 360, but it's this type of nonsense that may lead to me buying the PS4

I guarantee you that thing is connected to the internet even when it is technically turned off.
