LSUToo, I'm sending you a Christmas present for your commitment to the newb green leaf PC Gamers. I have a difficult time answering the simple question.
Does your kids like Star Wars or Ninja Tunetles? I know the oldest is a girl but, an April figure?
Edt: Nvm sending a Slave Leia costume for the wife to wear. My GF reads this board so I will be yelled at but, its awesome seeing your SO in WonderWoman.

Those pictures of Ultimates build are funny. He has the RAM in no bootable channel plus different paired channels for dual. Idk if I ever have viewed something like that. Your manual is key for telling you RAM configs in what Chanel. You always want one at less in the first 2 because those are the parent channels for A_C and B_D.

Yeah my daughter is still interested in caillou, super why, noodle and doodle, Elmo, and baby dolls. All the women in her life will be sure she doesn't grow up to be a nerd. :(

Unfortunately, that was only part of the problem, since I forgot about the card needing 150W of 12v.

So, who wants to critique a build?
An old friend of mine is doing a new build. He posted an initial part list, and I had some issues with it. But since he lives a state away and we haven't hung out in while, he isn't really aware that I generally kind of know stuff about this. From our discussions when he was stating the reasoning behind his choices, it appears that 90% of his information has come from Newegg reviews and Tom's Hardware threads. So, he kind of has like the McNuggets and Diet Coke of technology information. And it's difficult to sway people who've relied on that information.
So, without me disclosing my comments, I'll seek the wisdom of the rest of you to speak the truth about it, which may affirm, contest, or add on to what I've already told him.
Here's some info:
- I don't know if he has a set budget, so any suggestions should work reasonably within the amount shown on the part list.
- He is reasonably competent at assembly and will likely attempt basic overclocking.
- About his usage: He initially defined it as a gaming PC, but during discussions, he said, "This will be a primary PC, and as such will be used for hardcore gaming, video editing, photo editing, everything else that it could be used for in the future. It is not purely a gaming PC."
- He does apparently want WiFi. Not necessarily 802.11AC.

He's going to spend that much on a new build and use it on just a 1080p monitor? And a non IPS one at that?
Posted on 9/7/14 at 4:17 pm to UltimateHog
1080 IPS monitors are the middle tier displays.
Purchase a Korean 1440 from one of us here. I personally have 2 1440 Koreans in my closet and another 1440 Crossover I might sale since I purchase this ASUS Swift 1440/120hz/G-Sync monitor. Still don't know if im keeping it, not a fan of this TN panel.
EDT: Would rather 4K/60hz/G-Sync O-LED/IPS, but there isn't enough horsepower to drive such a display properly. My 3x780Ti setup is limited by VRAM for 4K but it still wouldn't be enough on chip. We will have to wait until Maxwell launches.

That's what I'm sayin' he's spending that much money on the build but getting a 1080 non IPS monitor? I'd get a much much better monitor if I was spending nearly 3K on a custom PC.

Well, maybe. But that's not really an issue for him, and considering my PC is worth even more than that (and Coyote's PC even more), I'll consider allocation more important than total spent. He's probably going to build two of these. One for his wife.
