Cox's tech support is actually automated. When you have internet troubles, a bot with pre-recorded messages on the phone will check the quality of your connections, walk you through reset instructions, and may even some resets on its end.

And then when that doesn't work, you get to speak to a pot-headish mid-grade tech support person.

I absolutely hate needing to call charter.. but once I'm able to get through the tech support and actually get someone out - charter's support team is actually really really good in the middle- birmingham region..

Press Release from a few days ago, but relevant to anyone who was looking to buy the new Swiftech all-in-one H220 -- Swiftech got some nastygrams from Asetek's lawyers regarding patent infrigements, and now it's no longer available in the U.S. (But I assume you can still order it from a site in another country. Shipping might suck, though)

Asetek was probably pissed that swiftech had made a superior product

Ok... so.. now I'm already thinking overclocking. What all do I need to know about overclocking?

(I ended up with the 7950, so I know I can overclock it, and I know that my i5-3570k is unlocked for overclocking as well..)

Overclock when you have time. Is not a quick process if you want to push it. I run my 7870 at stock though because mine wouldn't overclock enough to get a big performance gain.

Yeah I've heard from you and a few others that the H220 rapes the Corsair/Asetek coolers.

I have an OEM Asetek cooler (the model appears to be LCLC, which stands for Low Cost Liquid Cooling). If I had to guess I'd say it's an H50 or 60. It was on an LGA 775 so I only have the mounting hardware for that. It appears to work in that it powers on and the pump runs. I don't know how well it performs. Probably like an evo or something. If anyone wants it they can have it. Just collecting dust here.

What did you replace it with and why?

I split some of my 16GB off to my HTPC build and just want a whole new kit so I can use this other 8GB in a system I plan to build for my nephew.

Yea I have always had 16GB for video and 3d rendering purposes.

I have been doing a lot of work in Blender for stuff and I need the 16GB.

I meant what model did he replace that Corsair with and why.

I replaced with 2 x 8GB of 2133 CL9 gskill ripjaws X because I wanted to play around with more of Haswell's overclocking options. The BCLK has more room than ivy and sandy, plus there's a CPU strap adjustment option. Wanted to be able to play around with ratios and have enough wiggle room with the memory speeds and timings.

Also, Haswell behaves differently with memory in that they are more linked. Overclocking the CPU hinders the overclocking potential of the RAM and vice versa, so keeping two DIMM slots free should theoretically help with overall stability. I haven't had a chance to mess with all of that though. Right now the memory is running at its rated speeds/timings/volts just fine, and my CPU is still at 4.7.

OK. I always read Ivy and Sandy were locked at 1600 and would even DC your ram to that if you had something higher so anything more than 1600 was overkill for that reason.

I was just wondering why you were getting rid of a perfectly fine kit of 1600 but that makes sense.

Yea Blender is hard. It took me a while and I still don't know how to do half the stuff in it. It's amazing for open source software. I have always been good at photoshop and now I am also working on animation. It's all a hobby I enjoy because I am a creative person.

As silly as it may sound, I would love to hook up with someone that knew programming to combine my digital art skills with and make a game. Just for the challenge. Not expecting it to sell millions or anything.
