1440p is the most common, it took the lead for new builds over 1080p in steam hardware surveys about a year ago? Maybe a little over?
4K still quite small, but obviously growing quick nowadays with the new cards geared for them and a bunch of monitors flooding the market. The 3080 20GB being canceled kinda sucks as 10GB for 4K really isn't enough either and you're asking 2080ti owners to downgrade when you need to be adding more.

Smart Access Memory sounds pretty cool and promising.
Infinity Cache is as advertised from the CPU side's infinity fabric nice to see that tech evolve to the GPU side:

quote:
Why is this important? Previously, CPUs have only been able to access a tiny fraction of a graphics card’s memory banks – just 256MB, to be precise. At the moment, game developers use that tiny 256MB of memory to enable CPUs to occasionally handle things like buffers, polygon meshes, and texture and geometry data. In the distant past of 17 years ago, this wasn’t a huge problem given that GPU memory wasn’t much bigger than that in the first place. Now, though, it’s a different story, as all three of AMD’s new Big Navi GPUs have a whopping 16GB of GDDR6 memory apiece – and with Smart Access Memory, a Ryzen 5000 CPU will be able to access the whole lot of it.
Naturally, being stuck with just 256MB doesn’t give developers a lot of space to play with, and it means the CPU ends up making lots of calls to your graphics card’s memory banks, which increases your PC’s overall performance overhead and slows down your gaming speeds as a result. By allowing a CPU to have full access to that GPU memory, that performance overhead is dramatically reduced, allowing everything to speed up in order to increase those frame rates.
At the moment, AMD have seen performance gains of between 5-11% in titles they’ve tested internally – and, as we saw during AMD’s Big Navi event, up to 13% when you combine it with the RX 6000’s one-click overclocking feature called Rage Mode. That might not sound like a whole lot in practice, but AMD believe that once game developers are able to start testing it for themselves, we’ll see even bigger gains start to emerge over time.

Why aren't there knockoff 4k asian monitors now like there was back in 2013!?
Those monitors were so much fun

this has been quite the shite show. i've been in best buy's checkout twice now for an FE and i've been kicked out both times.

Got a 3090 yesterday and nabbed a 3070 Founder’s this morning. Was going to keep the 3070 as a backup card but I may sell everything once I get a 3080

let me guess, for twice the price, eh?

Best Buy was a shite show. Spammed checkout for the whole time and got errors.

i feel like that's gonna be the only stock you're going to see until nvidia comes out with a slightly better product to AMD's product. there's no way you're gonna get a new 30 series card after today before christmas. unless you buy from a scalper.
before you know it, the "supers" will be out.

are nvidia's launches always this bad or is covid really the reason behind the lack of stock? i remember getting my 5700xt no problem last year from newegg. i never saw a "buy it now" option this morning. the whole site crashed at 8:59.

Nvidia and Best Buy can suck a dick. I'm gonna try for an AMD.

i might just get a 1440p monitor. i was looking into it and my 5700xt can run warzone just fine at 120ish frames.

No, it's because they get their chips from Samsung who have been struggling mightily with yields.

Samsung 8nm is culprit, it's major supply issues. They rushed the cards out too soon because they knew AMD was coming with highly competitive cards in all spaces this time around.

It'll be interesting to see how this affects GeForce. There's a lot of people turned off from these 3070/3080 launches and if AMD has a good supply, then you could see a swing in popularity.

Welp, sold my 3070 for $850 already
sorry boys. honestly didnt expect there to be much of a scalping market for a budget card. kinda shocked honestly.
