People that spend $1700 on a GPU don't want to stay on 5+ year old CPU tech.

Depends, my old 4390K OC'd to 4.5 went nearly 5yrs.
Believe it seen the following GPUs:
2xTITANS SLi (2013)
2x780Ti SLi (2013)
2x980Ti SLi (2015)
2xTITAN X (Pascal) SLi (2016)
I upgraded from the Ivy-E 4930K to Broadwell-E 6850K during Pascal only because my X79 MOBO began giving me weird errors.
I agree, for the most part, but a lot of ppl will sit on CPU/MOBO combos for a few years unless crazy leaps in IPC come with a truly new architecture. Intel, I believe, hasn't had a truly new architecture since Haswell (not counting node).
All depends what games (engines) you play etc, and if it makes use of more cores, IPC or even single core IPC.
I'm happy with my 3900X, but, I can feel that lower single core IPC effecting me at times. What I hate about it is how aggressive it thermal throttles. I'm under water and the cpu rarely going over 55C, but when it approaches 60C it seems to pull back power/clocks a little too hard, which leads to not really stutters but funky frame time issues.

Back then sure, didn't really have choice. Today? Whole different ballgame with options and prices.
Don't wait on tech as you always say, if he wants to get the new Ryzen, then get it. Especially if you're going to spend that much on GPU/Monitor etc, just do the whole system at that point while you're in there. Hell he can probably sell the 9900K and get Zen 3 for free with the price differences or damn close.
I may do the same, need to see what 8700K's go for and how much a Zen 3 12 core costs. I keep the first ever builds fx8350 and mobo for emergencies.

I'm sure I'm in the minority on this one, but my typical pattern is spend a shitload of time building one and then not want to frick with it for 4-6 years
On my current build, I didn't even turn on the 1TB HDD in the bios until my SSD got full months later.

I guess that's one mentality, it's called consoles.

Before the build I just did, I kept my last 1 for 5 years. Same CPU/GPU combo. Just did small upgrades, like SSD, memory, better fans/cooling to lower noise, new monitor, etc..

Well played.
So nvidia pushed back the embargo lift to Wednesday because of shipping delays getting review samples out to other regions.
Also 3rd party card reviews are embargoed until Thursday when the founders card launches.

Can already see what's going to happen to 3080 and 3090, nvidia will have forced scarcity to drive prices up. Probably forget about getting them at $699 or $1499, was watching something last night about most 3080 cards going to be $800+ that you can actually get right away.

That is almost always the case at launch.

Here to report the Pixel 4A and Android 11 are a nightmare and more problems pop up daily.
Anyone else experience Android 11 issues? My Pixel 2 seems to have no issues, but also only use it for pictures. However, the GFs new 4A has new issues that pop up daily. Also requires several restarts a day. Will spend a little time with it tonight. Might reload android 11.
