Yeah 1K brand new at launch and still 700 now.

380 for an 8700K and 200 for mobo while selling 7700K for around 300. Not even expensive imo and I get a TON of fun out of it which is what really matters.

I'm glad I kept the delid tool I bought, once again terrible TIM used by Intel, OCers under load are seeing 10-15 degree improvements swapping out to a good TIM.

8700K, 7820X, 7800X, Ryzen 1700 are all quite a bit cheaper than a 5960X while offering more performance. That's a lot of better CPU's for a lot less money.

The 7700K when the 8700K comes in, will probably keep the mobo.

Gaming for sure. The 5960x still shits on all of those in everything else

Not really anymore tbh.

7820X is faster by 20% single core and multi core average.

Ryzen 7 1800X is about 8% faster multi core.

The brand spanking new 8700K is 35% faster single core, 29% faster quad core, and only 8 points total behind for -1% in multi core versus your 5960X with 2 less cores and 4 less threads, 1%. It's $379 and Z370 boards are pretty well priced with plenty of options.

CPU landscape has changed a shite ton over the last couple of months and especially now that we have a well priced 6 core i7 8700K that can OC easily to 5GHz across all 6 cores, with the top chips hitting 5.1-5.2GHz. Those are insane clocks for 6c/12t.

I am going to have a ton of fun with this thing, instant delid into max clocks and fine tuning at least 5GHz and I bet I can get 5.1GHz stable, and that is well worth.

This may be a really dumb question but here it goes...

I need a bigger HD. I currently have a SSD with about 300GB of space, which is essentially just my OS and some other minor programs.

I have another HD with 1TB of space with everything else - games, pictures, programs, etc. That is about full.

I had read something about hard drives over 2TB not working with Windows? I have Windows 10.

Hypothetical: Can I purchase an 8 TB HD and partition it into 4 2TB drives on my PC?

TIA

Just initialize the drive as GPT instead of MBR. It was an old problem for motherboards that don't support UEFI. No need to partition assuming your motherboard isn't more than 5 years old.

Oh excellent. So by going GPT route, it would have the entire 8TB hard drive?

Not quite, had said a few times awhile back I was waiting for CL to decide. Then mentioned I thought about building an itx build with a 1600 but no use for it.

There's always a use! My HTPC goes unused for months, but it's amazing to have when I need it
