I would be surprised if any of the guys that have built PCs in here have ever used one.
And that is A LOT of builds
Nope, never, not once.

Gonna get to it now without the static thing. I'm hoping all goes well and I can have it up and running within a few hours
First build? Have fun, the plex+ plex-, and all the other little wires are the hardest to get right.

I still have one founder code for Fortnite

Seems like I got everything working. Gotta install all of these drivers and make Windows un-retarded. I was able to get the processor to 4.3Ghz with a few clicks. Pretty sweet deal

I've personally built 2 PCs for myself and used the shite out of them.
I've helped build/repair a load of others for family and friends.
My problem is that I've been wanting to do a 4k HEDT gaming build for months but I've been pushing it out because of the current iffy situation in the industry I work in, and I can't justify spending 2.5k-3k, maybe more on a build right now.

Out of what? Anti-static bands?
Why? Where do you live? Dry climate I assume.

Another question guys:
So I have a Fractal Designs Define R5 case that came with two 120mm fans (it is really quiet). Instructions say to wire them up to a low-med-high switch on the front of the case, which I did. Is there any way I can wire these up to a DPDT switch so they can run off of interior heat sometimes, and off of the front multi-speed switch others? Should I try and figure out a way to run them off of interior heat only, or should I let it be, and just turn it up when I'm using it heavily?
I have a CM 212 on the CPU, and the P2000 video card has its own fan

Hook them up to the motherboard fan headers
Posted on 9/28/17 at 3:05 pm to bluebarracuda
I'll check to see where those are.
Did some ANSYS computations earlier, and this computer is about 3x faster than the ones at school. This one took 5 minutes to compute what those took 15 to do

There are at least 2 headers on the bottom right of the motherboard. Your mobo manual will show you where they are too

Grats on the build and losing your virginity.
Never, ever used the anti static things and I've build PCs in the dead of winter in Virginia. If you use a little common sense you don't need them.

I think (someone jump in here if I'm wrong) your the first one in this thread who has went with the new LGA2066 Intel processors.
What do you think of the 7820x? How are the thermals?
Pretty crappy that Intel chose to hold the PCIE lanes hostage on this one as opposed to the 6900k.

Tell me the best way to test overall temps, and I'll post them (if that's what you mean by thermals)
All I have right now is this after the stress test:

That is pretty good.
Best way to test temps? HWMonitor, just the reports from the MOBA in BIOS too.
Try OC'ing to 4.5 on all cores. That seems achievable. What cooler are you using? Do you have air flow over VRMs?

Case came with two 140mm fans. The CPU also has a CM 212 on it. I took out all of the extra 3.5" slots so air could move easier.
Okay, so I did another test with this CPU-Z program that came with my computer. All 8 cores were maxxed out at 100% for around 20 minutes, and temps didn't get above 69°C. This was the highest things got (except for temps)

I will take it. Wanna try it out.
I need more games in my library anyway.

So the 8700K absolutely smashes the 7800X in gaming, idk how Intel is ever going to sell those things now and I hope anyone who got one can still return that is some feelsbadman shite 2 months later if you can't.
Not only is it significantly better average FPS, but also large difference in minimums too.
LINK
8700K vs 7800X 1080p:
Far Cry Primal: 124/98 vs 111/70
GTA5: 146/48 vs 118/29
Titanfall 2: 141/126 vs 131/125
Sleeping Dogs: 275/112 vs 225/87
DOOM: 188/137 vs 162/86
The 8600K 6c/6t has almost the same exact results of course. The 8600K is where it's at for price/performance here. $250 for 6 cores with 7700K level gaming performance.

I can turn it up more in the BIOS. That is the middle level of three. All I have to do is click a couple of buttons, and it adjusts everything. Not sure I want to try and max it out though. 4.3Ghz works well for everything I'm doing, plus it still has that Intel turbo boost thing that goes up to 4.5

It's fun to watch Intel squirm.
Small, but accurate report of market.
Sold half my shares last year. Kept the other half.
If only the gpu division could step up...
The CPU division should be fine with LP(leading performance) vs LPP(low power plus).
Refresh could be interesting.
Lower latency memory has also done well for AMD chips vs Intel.
