Mine is worse. I didn't buy a modular PSU, so there is a lot of nasty clutter.

Order this 390x today or wait on a Fury?

I can't fit a Fury X in my case so that is out and I have no idea when the air cooled Fury will release.

ok.. so, I have been very happy with my Radeon, I have, BUT I have slight problems every once in awhile with glitches, random minimization problems, etc. that I just never had with nVidia... so I'm almost tempted to go back to nVidia again... why should I stick with Radeon?

Also - I'm looking to upgrade in July, and have about a $800 budget for a new MB, Processor, and GPU, what are some combinations you guys would recommend for me?

I already have a good case, memory, and power supply...

I would wait until September like me and upgrade mobo/cpu with Skylake.

NVidia's been fricking up driver releases on an epic level lately.

If you do wait for Skylake, you'll need new memory too.

I thought Skylake dual supported ddr3 and ddr4 via double IMC?

I didn't even think about this and bought some 2x8GB the other day. I am still rocking a 3770k though.

ok then... $800 budget, need a new MB, Processor, and GPU - I want to have fun this time around if possible - maybe liquid cooling and more overclocking if possible, etc.

I'm not getting a Skylake...

A) I'm not that hardcore
B) I'm not buying new memory, and even though I don't "have to" I would, just because it would eat at me that I didn't have the best for what I bought

Yes, but not in a way that would allow us to keep our existing DDR3 sticks as previous rumors indicated. It will be transitional support for low-end and mobile, and very limited at that. According to an article on Kitguru from last month, Skylake is supposedly going to support DDR4 and DDR3L only (low-voltage DDR3, 1.35v max). Basically, you'll see mobos with 204-pin DDR3 SO-DIMM slots (laptops and some low-end Mini-ITX boards) or mobos with full 288-pin DDR4 DIMM slots (everything else).

There are 240-pin DDR3 modules that operate at 1.35v, and even though they are part of the same JEDEC standard with the same integrated circuits, there is an identifier on the RAM's SPD chip that Skylake CPUs will supposedly check for. I imagine the DDR3L support is extended as a courtesy to notebook vendors and manufacturing partners who are sitting on a stockpile of perfectly good DDR3L that they'd like to put in next year's notebooks.

Well that kind of sucks, given how expensive DDR4 still is, and Intel themselves said not long ago they expect the pricing of DDR4 to stay high for awhile.

Oh well, still day 1ing a 6600K.

Guess I will start shopping for deals daily now on DDR4, do we know what 1151 is going to use speed wise? PC4-24000 PC4-25600 PC4-22400?

ETA: Mushkin Redline 3000MHz 8GB CL15 for $92.99 doesn't seem that bad at all price wise, the only mobo that supports that is the Sabertooth X99 though, speed may be a pain to order ahead of any motherboards being launched for 1151.

Early R9 390X benchmarks. 12%~20% faster than the 290X, on par/surpasses the GTX 980, and is more quiet and energy efficient.

quote:

At this point in time you might think I’ve either gone off the deep end or I might have started drinking AMD-flavored Kool-Aid but hear me out. With higher core clocks and an epic amount of memory bandwidth, the R9 390X is able to leave the reference R9 290X in its dust and even manages to outmuscle the GTX 980 in nearly every test.

Regardless of whether you want to call this a rebrand or refresh (I’m firmly on the refresh side), the R9 390X is an undeniably appealing card for anyone who can’t justify spending over $450 for a GPU. It is truly amazing to see that a Hawaii-based derivative can be so competitive this far into its life. I’m just not sure if that represents a ringing endorsement for the versatility of AMD’s GCN 1.1 architecture or an honest critique about how the graphics performance yardsticks haven’t moved all that much in almost two years. Maybe it’s both.

Well I was going to order a Fury next week, but maybe I'll just go 390/X. Decisions. Most likely Fury. Kudos to AMD though.

Anybody want my Sapphire TriX 290 before I eBay it?

Haswell-E used the JEDEC standard 2133, so I'm guessing it'll be the same here, with anything else considered OCing as usual.

Don't worry about that. It largely depends on the CPU's IMC, silicon lottery similar to overclocking. Just get a stable motherboard that lets you adjust digital and analog input and output voltages and system agent voltage.

Literally every other review out there says the 390x is nothing impressive and is a marginal improvement over the 290x.
