It's a blast but I don't see it having legs. The collecting part will be fun for the masses for a couple of weeks and by the time that gets old the people way too into it will have the gyms all locked down and the user base will shrink down to the hard core players.
I just wish I owned a server farm because you know this blowing up caught them flat footed.
I hope this game teaches people something. So many popular games have in app purchases as their business model to the point that you can't even do much without laying down some coin. This game should teach people to make games that are fully playable for free which makes them blow up huge and you still make your money while everyone who doesn't want to spend money still can enjoy it.

I'm afraid the game will turn into the people who spend a ton of money and control all the gyms all the time.

As long as they keep releasing Pokemon the collecting will stay novel.
It's why I play for sure. I'm not really interested in the gym.
I'm interested in tracking down the 3 paw shadow in the lower right hand corner.
As long as they update the Pokemon this thing will roll.

Found a gym today in s small town near me with a post office and bank. Doesn't even have a red light.
Needless to say I got 10 coins.
Can you collect from more than one gym at a time (click the shield in shop) or only one at a time.
I'm defending 2 gyms but it only let me select the shield for 10 coins on the first gym.

Alright 1 hour and 30 minute walk I caught
4 pdigey
1 Weedle
1 DoDuo
3 Rattata
So in an hour and a half I caught 9 Pokemon, the app did freeze on two. One was a 318 CP Pidgeot
Questions:
1. Is there a trick to balls? I mean I fed the Pidgeot a razz berry and still wasted 42 balls trying to catch it. Most of the balls seemed to roll out of my hand or go WAY off to the right.
2. I had a bear shape on my screen got with-in 1 paw print and then it just disappeared. Does that mean someone caught it or that it ran away?
3. How do you use Ingress, I pull it up and I see the clusters and when I walk to them nothing appears on the PokemonGo app. In fact it said everything was 2+ paw prints away.

3. Ingress will show XM clusters. Good pokemon will spawn at those XM clusters. You just need to use ingress to determine where you should look..instead of wandering aimlessly in a circle.
For example, you see large XM clusters in front of the 3rd house, a tree, a swing, a church, etc. You'll know only to check there. They are the green rustling leaves in pogo
It's just as easy to track by keeping the nearbye screen up and watching them move up and down the list. Then change you cardinal direction and look for a green pulse. Also click on the pokemon in the nearbye window to single it out for tracking

The trick is waiting until the circle is as small as possible before throwing the ball.

The correlation between Ingress XM and Pokemon spawn spots was just a theory which might not be correct. I tried it last night with no luck.
