So I might get this, still undecided. Exploring planets, is it possible to go over every square inch of them, or are there some spots you can't get to, like invisible walls? If not, is there a point where you know you've explored all of it?

You could explore every inch of a given planet provided you have the right equipment (booster to breathe underwater longer, jet pack booster for high cliffs). There are no invisible walls.
But I'd guess if you tried to explore an entire planet, you'll die of old age before you ever see it all. Remember when they said they have planet-sized planets? They weren't kidding.
ETA: I've had markers to locations pop-up indicating it'd take 15 hours to get there on foot on the same planet.
2nd ETA: You can check your progress of exploring "everything" on a planet in the options menu. Basically find the six to eight main locations and catalogue all flora and fauna for the planet to get to 100%. Even then, you will rarely get 100%. I got one planet to 100%, but it was devoid of plants and animals so it was easy. Next best was 85% and I spent a good five or six hours on it before finally giving up and moving on.

Is it not in our best interest to always kill the stupid little sentinel bots? (maybe I've been unlucky, but those sumbiches are always angry at me).
It's weird looking at the horizon and seeing "hours" as a metric for travel time. I actually started walking towards one of those, then thought better and hopped back in the ship and flew there in 30 seconds.
To upgrade inventory on your exosuit, is that a pattern you find, or should it be available from your local space station?
I also crashed into the space station
Only played a couple of hours, but it seems fun once you get a handle on the UI and inventory management aspects.
(and landing)

Mine is finally getting in from Amazon today. One of the rare times that Prime's two-day shipping wasn't fast enough

SPOILERS
Why are you laughing at the ending? It's a video game designed entirely around discovery and searching planets. The game ending with you reaching the center of the universe and using the Atlas Stones to create another entirely new universe to explore is actually pretty great.
Not sure what you were expecting.

Frick the world I'm on right now.
107 degrees Celcuis
Little ball-like plants with spikes if you get too close
Goddamn mini-TRex all over the place that attack on sight
If you shoot any plant, instant level 3 sentinels (2 UAVs and a robot dog death machine thing)
Gold and copper all over the place to farm
Oh, and dust/heat storms that deplete your shields in matter of seconds.

The game is testing my patience. In a system where I keep getting jumped by hostile ships so I have 4 systems damaged.
AND all the planets have extreme cold. So I can only stay out a few minutes.
AND the sentinels on those planets are frenzied and attack me if I just walk around.
I literally may be stuck here.

OK, hot tip if you happen to stumble across this...
There's a small plant that is spherical. If you get too close, spikes come out of it to injury you. When you scan, they're highlighted by an exclamation point (!). They drop something called "Sac Venom". Each is worth 25,095 units.
If you shoot them with your blaster instead of your mining gun, no sentinels will show up. I'm up over 4 million just in the past 45 minutes because those plants are all over the place. I just farm them next to a trading outpost for easy selling.

fuuuck i need this game

I'm loving this game. It does suck if you get on a planet that doesn't have a lot going on, though. I don't even care about getting to the center of the universe or whatever. I'm having a blast going to each planet in each system to find weird shite.
