The same has happened to me.
My new policy is to just kill them all (sentinels). I don't know if their aggression spans star systems as yet tho!

Jesus christ, that ship is so worth it though.
I have got nothing but shite planets through my first four. The best place I've landed on was a moon resource wise.
I still have the default ship, but my multi-tool does have 14 slots lol. Pretty proud of that.
One of my friends I was in a party with tonight is still in his first system because two of his planets have had some kind of pearl looking resources that sell for 30k+. He already has over 10 mil in currency.

Im still not sure what to do with this stuff. I want to sell them, but I feel like I'm going to need them later on for crafting

Here's how the crafting works.
For each of your exosuit, multi-tool and starship you can find blueprints (technologies). If you have a blueprint of say a better cannon for your starship, go to the starship tab, find an empty slot and press X (at least on PS4, don't know what it is on PC). You can see if/what you need to develop it.
In any empty slot, you can also press square to craft an item that you may need to develop a tech. It's not as confusing at it sounds.
To answer your question, when your inventory starts getting full, just sell whatever you want. There's nothing there that you can't find relatively easy later on.
I highly highly recommend searching for "drop pods" on the planets. In them, you can buy an extra slot for your exo-suit. I already maxed mine out at 48 slots. Makes managing the inventory way easier. It's easy to spot a drop pod because there's literally only a single egg-shaped pod sitting in a particular spot. Should be easy to see from your ship as you're flying around a planet.

How the frick have you already maxed out your exosuit inventory?
I played 7 hours today and I think found 8 drop pods
All five planets I went today sucked, big time. Had one planet left in my second system and said frick, I'll check it then go to bed and there is just gold and copper EVERYWHERE.
I've heard from others that those two resources aren't really that rare, but I hadn't found either yet.

LOL, I'm grinding hard.
I'm on a planet like Hoth from SW:ETB. And it has meteor strikes. One hit pretty close to me, scared the shite out of me
Didn't notice until I was flying around and saw a bunch of meteors coming down from space. WTF

I thought the chances of that were slim to none. It seems to be quite common from what has been posted in Reddit. Yet another broken promise from the devs.

Just started the game last night, i cant decide if i wanna mine my arse off in the first solar system and get a bunch of money and upgrades or just say frick it and start exploring, i already have everything i need to travel

Wanted to start the DL before I left for work but it isn't available yet for PC. I'll have to start it when I get home.

Has anyone tried driving to the center of the galaxy on the map? I watched on gut go for 15 minutes straight on YouTube and it wasn't ever close, It's so big.

Jesus just checked this game out on Amazon, 2-4 weeks delivery.

There's 3 paths you can take. The center is one. I've chosen the Atlas path which is some crazy lore and it's hinting at this game being a simulation in a simulation in a simulation on multiple different timelines.
Once i get to the end of that path I'll probably head towards the center.

I will say this about No Man's Sky. I feel like this game is much better if you don't read any tips or hints and instead figure everything out for yourself because once you learn how it all works, you start to realize there's very little depth to the game once the allure of landing on and taking off of new planets wears off.
You will almost never discover anything on any planet beyond the same trading post, shelter, beacon, manufacturing facility, or monument. Every one of these areas on every planet is laid out the exact same way with the exact same upgrades. Once you figure out that "exploration" is a matter of landing next to a beacon, activating the beacon, then flying directly to one of those things, exploration looses a lot of its appeal. That being said, you do run across some wildlife, structures, or geometric formations that are pretty unique when compared to everything else you've seen up until that point, but the algorithm that makes up this universe needs more building blocks to play with. There's only a handful of biomes, plant life and cave structures with the only difference being the geography of the planet as well as the lighting effects. All points of interest on every planet look the exact same. It will probably take about an hour or two to see them all then once you have, you've pretty much seen everything there is to see from a discovery standpoint. There's still worth in roaming around the planets just marveling at the scenery. I don't question the appeal that this will provide for some people. I enjoy that aspect of it myself, but's not something I can envision doing for long periods of time without a break in between.
The crafting is largely superficial. I've explored 4-5 systems already and haven't crafted anything beyond warp cells and bypass chips yet I've gotten along just fine. I can see exosuite upgrades that offer greater protection against certain elements coming in handy as with many planets you can only walk the surface for a few minutes at best before you freeze to death, burn to death, or die from radiation.
Starship upgrades for stronger shields and weaponry will be helpful as well as the further you explore, the more it seems like you are constantly assaulted by pirates.
Outside of that, there's little in the way of components or upgrades that feel essential or that really change how the game is played. If anything, the game's inventory management actively discourages you from crafting as every upgrade takes up an inventory slot.
Space is more or less a giant loading screen between planets. Aside from getting attacked by pirates (which starts to happen more frequently to the point of where it becomes annoying), there's not much to space flight and it honestly feels a bit cramped. There's just not much to see or do beyond flying to a planet or flying to one of only 2 or 3 variations of the same space station. The stop and start nature of navigating between star systems also makes moving to a new star system feel a lot more like moving to a new level in a video game than exploring a cohesive universe.
I do love the art direction in this game. It reminds me of 1960s sci-fi or early Star Wars concept art. I will also say that I've always wanted to play a game that lets me take off, land on, and explore planets with no loading screen or transition in between. I think that plus the music and the initial rush of discovery makes me glad I picked up this game, but I do wish there more variation with the game's assets and a bit more to see and do aside from superfluous crafting and re-discovering the same 4 or 5 buildings on every planet.
As I said earlier, I feel like No Man's Sky is a solid foundation that hopefully they build upon from a world design standpoint as well as from a content standpoint. As it stands now, the game is a bit bare bones, but there's honestly nothing else quite like it.

That's about as accurate of a description as you'll find.
For now, I'm having fun finding new types of worlds with new animals, strange eco-systems (superhot world where it snows "something"), and visuals. I can see it getting old eventually, but hopefully they'll add to this game through updates.
