Went home and started the game on my lunch break and I don't understand these things. Do they just randomly attack?
I've run into several of them, but more often than not they don't do anything, but they have attacked me for no reason whatsoever.

My first planet was -100 C and I was constantly getting cold. There was a lot of vegetation though.
Just got my hyperdrive, but I need whatever it is that fuels it.

No.
The game as of now is single player only and there is no true 'end game'. Just discovering new stuff.
In other news....
A huge war is going on over on the neogaf forums about where these giant snakes are. Shockingly enough (sarcasm), the community is split between the people who actually bought the game and the ones who are still constantly bitching about the game and are refusing to purchase it, yet can't stop discussing it.
There was one guy who was saying that if the giant snakes were in the game then they would have already been found and that the devs blatantly lied

My guess is a lot of what was shown to the press or at E3 is either super rare or doesn't currently exist in game.

Yeah, I haven't seen anything that comes remotely close to giant Beetlejuice sand snakes.

I haven't seen architecture like in that GIF or a desert biome, but that doesn't mean much.
I have seen some giant animals though. No massive dinonsaur-like creatures, but I've seen some that look twice as tall as my character. Usually you find them in the most fertile planets.

Just a heads up...on my game at least, dying in space crashes your game....
Also be on the lookout for albumen pearls...there's a planet with hundreds of them. Worth 28,000 units a piece.

The sentinels I've run into come and investigate when I destroy something
So I let them investigate then when they go back to patrolling, I continue mining or doing whatever I was doing.

When you land on a new planet, check out the bottom left of the screen. They tell you how aggressive or passive the sentinels will be.

First big animals I've seen. Tried to get closer, but they kept running away. Were at least twice as tall as I was.
ETA: Just stumbled across this.....wonder what happened, kind of creepy.
