I don't understand why people rush through games.

Started playing Fallout 4 yesterday.. hooked. Anyone have tips for building/protecting settlements? Is Sanctuary Hills a good place to make your main base/base of operations, or would I be better served waiting til I find a more centralized place?

I didn't really even get anywhere on the main storyline.. immediately got sucked into other quests

I like starlight diner, but I've never had issues with them being attacked. Maybe im not that far into the Minutemen missions yet.

Smuggler type:

High agility, Perception, charisma, luck

Use sneak and semi auto pistols almost exclusively (gunslinger makes non auto pistols very good). Shot gun for "oh shite" moments. Never wear power armor at all.

Always try to be sarcastic and I steal anything I can get my hands on and not get caught.

Now that I am lvl 16, I'm going to start adding 1 point in INT and 2 in STR to get armorer and gun nut to further the build through gear. by level 19 I'll be lightening up armor and making new gun mods by 21.

I'm a semi-auto rifle/pistol guy. High luck, perception, intelligence and agility.

I have about 2 in endurance and 3 in strength.

I boost my charisma when I need it with Ridley's Suit and a Newsboy cap.

I've read that frequency of attack depends on the town's stats. high food, defense, water, etc. results in more frequent attacks.

I have badass 308 sniper rifle and a certain individual's revolver that I use primarily.

I don't even spend my perk points because I'm afraid of making the wrong decision. So I typically save them until I absolutely need something for hacking/lockpicking or whatever may be useful at the time.

I lost a timed mission at lunch, didn't even know it would be timed, wasn't really timed but you had to get to someone before they got attacked, reloaded several times and never could get there before the mission failed.

I don't think I've found a sniper rifle yet. On the lookout.

My build has kind of evolved into this but I'm worried that luck and intelligence might be a bad mix. It seems like some of the perks clash with each other. I only started with high luck because I read that it had the best perks but I'm finding myself using other trees instead. I wish there was an option to reset attributes at least once.

Have y'all attacked any friendly NPCs? There was this one person that I want to unload my double-barrel shotgun on for being a douche but I was too late.

My one complaint so far is there are no "you lost Karma" notifications anymore.

I assumed it was the same thing when "Codsworth" hated that, but I don't remember if there was anything when you didn't have a companion.

Grab a combat shotgun and those mirelurks aren't a problem. Even better if you can give them the hire ground or have cogsworth distract them.

I had to get my INT up to 5 in order to access some of the perks I wanted. I know the higher my INT is the less idiot savant happens but at 5 it still happens enough to be worth it

I've got almost 100 hours and I've done none of the main story quests

I just rescued valentine and started hanging with him. I'm at level 33
