Im a classy individual so I went with the cane.
There are shortcuts. I've gotten lost a few times and ended up in other parts of the city. You can only level up after you faced he first boss but you don't have to beat him to level up. I have to get work done so maybe I'll try and get him again in awhile

Sweet mother of monkey milk. I finally got back to the first hunter's dream by opening up the gate next to it.
That felt like forever between saves.
Only two deaths so far were the first time I fought the first big guy with the massive axe and when I got swarmed by about 5 people right after that.
Those giant wolves scared the shite out of me though.
ETA: cleric beast down in one try.

If you have sony headphones like the gold set they have an app you can download to your PS4. From there some games get specific audio profiles with settings that cater to that specific game. It's not a massive difference but I did notice the audio was a little better in my headphones with the Last of Us.
