Right but I just don’t understand what the frick they were doing for 6 years. I’m starting to think AAA game devs are some of the laziest people in the workforce.
Also I don’t subscribe to the idea that just because a game launches like shite you should withhold from playing it even if they do eventually get said game to an awesome place See Warframe and Elder Scrolls Online. Both launched like shite, both are awesome now. I have no moral qualms about playing either.
I do agree buying the product while it’s in the broken phase isn’t good for the industry.

Jesus had no idea it was in this bad of shape. Haven’t they been working on this thing for like 6 years too?
who knows how many times they scrapped concepts and elements and started new things over again.
when you have teams of 800+ working on something like this, you need a very strong and very focused management team (with appropriate structure) to ensure everything is staying on schedule and within scope . Bioware is clearly lacking this type of vision, and EA doesn't help.
Rockstar and CD Projekt Red are the only "huge" developers I've seen that can pull off very long development times with big teams. Then you have studios like Santa Monica that have teams 1/4 of the size putting out games like God of War in 4 years. incredible

People pay full price for half a game and then justify it by saying it will be better when they finally complete it and they pay more money for the DLC to fix what they sent out.
There is no other service out there that works that way.
Gamers are the most gullible idiots out there.

Metacritic is sitting at 70%.
The best of the worst I have seen is from somethingawful.com.

He gave it a 3/10.

Anthem is a husk of a game. It's a BioWare title utterly devoid of everything that once made BioWare noteworthy. Like Destiny before it, Anthem is what you get when you smooth out the rough edges that are secretly the best parts of video games, then continue to smooth away the remaining formless blob until all that's left is one third of ACTION PRODUCT WITH LEVELING.
quote:
"But you can fly around like Iron Man," some people say, a remix of the popular Destiny refrain "But the gunplay feels good." Sure, and that's novel for five or ten minutes. Maybe an hour if you're dumb as frick (no offense, I happen to be dumb as frick myself). At that point you have seen everything the flying/shooting has to offer, and you should ask yourself, "Now what does the game do with this?"

If Anthem was a shooter you'd expect a campaign with actual mission design and setpieces. What you get is a thing on a map to interact with, then fight bad guys. Oh, sometimes you fight the bad guys first as well. What a memorable journey! A lot of annoying people say things on your radio while the shooting happens. Does that count as mission design?
If Anthem was a Diablo-like game you'd expect meaningful loot and an expanding toolkit of skills that open up builds in dramatically different ways. What you get are a handful of samey items repeated ad nauseum with varying power levels, nudging stats forward.
If Anthem was an RPG you'd expect halfway decent writing. What you get is Full Whedon, with a touch of the Far Cry "look directly at the camera and perform a checklist of character traits with occasional awkward pauses for emphasis" routine.
If Anthem was an MMO you'd expect a world brimming with personality and detailed nooks and crannies to explore. What you get is SHOOTING AREA and a lifeless hub populated by one-note mission dispensers.

If you absolutely must play a current online BioWare title set in space, then sure, go ahead. Log on to Star Wars: The Old Republic and be pleasantly surprised by the fun, substantial campaign stories.

All of this. Not to mention Casey Hudson left mid development and then came back 3 years later. I seriously think the current concept of Anthem didn't start serious development until late 2016 or early 2017.

Jesus. EA must be thanking Respawn so much right now.

I requested a cancellation to my pre-order today. I was all in on the game and it turns out it is a buggy mess. Sure the combat is fun but everything else sucking doesn't make up for that.
Looking forward to The Division 2.

Impressed that you did not die on that hill.
Good for you.
It's a shame what has become of BioWare.

Gotta know when to holdem and know when to foldem. Sucks but I'd rather this than play the game for months in spite of myself then finally give up.

Update: Sony support told me to get fricked on my request to cancel the pre order, even though the game has not released yet.
Last time I ever get a game on their store. Physical copies for ever. At least it is just $85 and not a lot of money. Now I guess I'll give the game a shot this weekend, but I ain't too happy about it.

I have no idea why people pre-order digital copies of games.

because I am lazy enough where it seems like a decent idea at the time. Simple as that. Never got burned until now.

Casey Hudson is too big of a prick to put out shite games. He needs to go.
Posted on 2/22/19 at 12:28 pm to Byron Bojangles III
It is down to 60% on Metacritic.
IGN gave it 6.5/10.
The Guardian gave it a whopping 40%.
This game is getting shite on.
Hopefully, this will help to herald the end of the “put out incomplete games so dumbass gamers can spend double the money to buy the full game in 6 months” routine.
