I think EA is predicting at least 7 million copies sold.

Connection issues aside, The game is super fun IMO. Mass Effect Andromeda combat on steroids.

Apex came out of nowhere and has everyone’s attention.

Except for the giant subsection of gamers that don't care for Battle Royale games. Anthem will have a huge playerbase that has nothing to do with Apex, because they are fundamentally different games in their approach.

I'm not sunshine pumping here, but Anthem should do quite well. At least until The Division 2 comes out and then we will see what looter shooter prevails this year.

You may be right. But I was very close to being in on buying Anthem. Then Apex came out of nowhere and I know I will no life that, so I am out now on Anthem. I am not every gamer though.

One is a co-op third person FPS/MMO hybrid that has no PVP. The other is a competitive BR game.

Apex Legends is also F2P, so it isn't like people are going to have to decide which game to spend their money on.

Yeah, not sure why people think they are direct competition. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

They are not direct. But they are both co-op games. One pvp the other a pve grind. Me and two other guys I know are not buying this because our time will be spent on Apex now. Which will surely hold us over until Division 2.

Mostly because Respawn's last game (Titanfall 2) was released right in between CoD and Battlefield 1 (BF1 being EA's own game). Sales for Titanfall 2 suffered because of it.

Well that makes sense because those are all multiplayer FPSs

I'm still buying Anthem and I almost had a solid group of my friends buying it too until Apex came out. Thanks EA for dropping two solid games in 2 weeks

If it would have been more completed when they released it, I think it would have been a huge hit. That game was addicting

I've got it preloaded since I have origin access premier. Might as well check it out tomorrow and see how it is.

Apex came out and appears to be great, but I have the opinion that people who don't like BR games aren't going to suddenly start playing this one. Some people like both, like yourself.

I hate BR games personally, so Apex never entered into my consideration where any other game is concerned. Are BR games the most popular right now? Of course. Will Apex hurt Anthem's sales? Probably, but that can be argued for ANY game that releases while it is boat racing everyone else. Same could be said in the past for PUBG and Fortnite.

The bigger threat to Anthem is The Division 2 since they are the same genre and are both releasing at the same time essentially. Apex will affect both of their sales. EA would have been smarter to drop Apex after Anthem for sure, I see that.

Did you get premier specifically for early access to Anthem or did u have it before?

A couple weeks ago Origin was having a special for Origin Access Basic for $1. So I went ahead and got it. That way I can get a 10 hour demo of Anthem and can decide if I want to cancel my pre-order or not.

Not sure if they are still offering the the basic for $1.

So is Anthem a game that you can’t just do solo? I’ve seen a few links explaining it but it doesn’t fully answer my question. I’ll play multiplayer time to time but never campaign so not sure if anthem is something I want to try.

You can play missions solo if you set the party to private, but strongholds (dungeons) I believe you cannot.

Game looks so fricking awesome. Only thing that prevents me from buying day 1 is I got a feeling it’s gonna launch in a similar state to vanilla D1. The foundation and mechanics will be polished but it will take them some time to flesh out the endgame and loot pool.

I played half the Xbox ea access trial today with a buddy and it was great. No glitches or loading screen errors like the demo. Annoyed by the 10 hr limit but it’s not surprising coming from EA. I started as a Collossus and have’t switched since, after playing Storm in the demos. I played Destiny day 1 and this is a similar experience so far. The story is bit more coherent though.

Slim, I'm disappointed in you. I remember the days when you roasted Destiny and its ilk and called it out as the soulless, hollow grind it was. Never thought I'd see you in Destiny or Anthem threads

from what people are saying, it's worse

quote:

The mission design is incredibly bland. You have three objectives: collect several objects and bring them to a point, stand inside a circle for several minutes, or eliminate enemies. That is literally it. They are chained together in different combinations, in different areas, with different enemies; but it's still all you're doing. You'll likely do three objectives per mission, and they will be scattered across the map to increase your time playing.

lolololol. hope yall like loading screens too.

I'll never understand how there is a demand for these types of games. do the same shite over and over again in a grind to reach some "endgame state" where you proceed to do the same shite over and over again.

All the guys reviewing the game are just raking it over the coals. this game will launch like complete shite and in a year, people like sicboy will be on here with "Anthem is a good game now" threads. Gaming in 2019 is in a dark, dark place. this guy on the anthem sub nailed it:

quote:

As long as people have their standards SO LOW that they are fully okay with receiving sub par and half assed lazy games at launch the trend won’t stop unfortunately. There’s always gems which break the norm and actually deliver a stable, quality and passionate experience right out the gate but I just hate how ignorant people are with these kind of things.

Various thoughts:

quote:

You get to fly around like fricking iron man, and there ISNT. ONE. AERIAL PURSUIT MISSION IN THE ENTIRE frickING GAME.

quote:

It kind of baffles me that this game exists. They had the opportunity to look at Destiny, Destiny 2, The Division and Waframe to see how not to screw up a "loot shooter". Why would you not look at those games and see what people do and don't like? The mission design is just so unbelievably generic. In the tutorial mission you do the three types of missions there are. IN THE FIRST MISSION. Go to point and kill enemies, go to point and capture it or go to point and collect item and press X. In the first 10 minutes of the game, you've done all you're going to do in the game.

The boring mission types mixed with a boring hub world and horribly long load times, it's just an absolute chore to play. The story and world are interesting but I don't like any of the characters. They all have weird mannerisms and just come off strangely. It's hard to describe honestly, like everyone is on a stage play(Apparently the lead writer of Andromeda did most of the writing so, this makes sense). I don't enjoy any of the dialogue so when I come back from a mission I loathe having to slowly walk through Taris to talk to someone about some random bullshite. Since all it is going to result in is two things. Having to slowly walk across the town to another character or get in my javelin, go through 3 loading screens, fight through 4 enemy camps, press X and stand for 2 minutes and listen to them yell at me through the radio.

Even the Anthem subreddit is full of harsh criticism and it was full of people rallying to its defense during the demo weekends. There is so much potential in this game and it doesn't do ANYTHING great. Even the fun flying is scuffed by a cooldown mechanic. It all just feels like a chore. Even the loot grind isn't that fun because the weapons and gear aren't that interesting and you get the same weapons over and over. I just do not understand how they could drop the ball so hard. I'm not at all saying this should have been the best game ever, but it shouldn't suffer from the same problems of games from years ago.

quote:

and the loadingscreens. You can litterally get a coffee during every one of them

quote:

The "exploration" is a total joke. The world is pretty but there's nothing to find out there. Just random events that are basically the same mission objectives, but because you can only share the map with three other players that do not spawn alongside you and with whom you cannot communicate, you're unlikely to be able to do them.

quote:

The story is incredibly forgettable, the plot is almost entirely left unexplained. When they do attempt explanation it is hamfisted or unbearably cringey ("My Jani"). The characters try way, way too hard to be endearing and come off as obsessive creeps. The lore is totally forgettable and feels almost incoherent, like someone said "Iron Man in the jungle, he'll fight mutants and baddies, maybe humanity was enslaved by the Brutes from Halo or something? What more do you need?" It's the kind of incongruous, non-committal worldbuilding that feels like a parody of a high schooler's D&D homebrew or something.
