I’m not sure what exactly touched you where, but man that was one scathing review

Anyone can look up what some random neckbeards wrote on some random forum.

For the $15 I paid for it, I'm having fun.

It is a case of BioWare abandoning what they're known for to chase trends on behalf of EA. I feel bad for BioWare more than anything.

Should've had the Andromeda team work on Anthem while this studio made Mass Effect, another Dragon Age, or some new IP that isn't a Destiny clone.

Carson is very good at telling everyone why they should hate a game

loading screens galore!...and the audio bug is annoying but that's a day 1 patch so hopefully it gets resolved. Game does play better than the demo

Truth.

EA does EA things and people still act surprised when they find out.

Sorry bruh. I got urges that Ori and the Turtle Kingdom or Cuphead just can’t scratch. I’m a big warframe guy, and this looks like it has the potential to develop into something similar down the line. I mean if this doesn’t peak your interest at least a little, then you’re either legally dead or a liar and I just can’t help you.

With that said, you’re probably right and EA will end up shitting the bed with this one sadly

This mindset by gamers is annoying as hell.

People pay full price for half a game and then justify it by saying it will be better when they finally complete it and they pay more money for the DLC to fix what they sent out.

There is no other service out there that works that way.

Gamers are the most gullible idiots out there.

I can confirm it’s a loading screen fest and bug ridden POS right now.

Right and that’s why I’m gonna do what I did with Destiny and wait until they fix the game and then purchase the full version for 60 bucks.

yeah, i mean this is the same group of people that will order a special edition to get an action figure or some shitty little statue

they're breathing in the fumes of the nasty machine they built. publishers and devs will continue this practice as long as it keeps making them money

yeah, those looks awesome. but when you're doing it over and over in the same 3 missions types, it loses its novelty and charm. even i didnt think the game would be in this bad a state

Are they not doing monster hunts in this game? That’s where it’s real potential is, so that’s a huge missed opportunity if not.

I'll never understand how there is a demand for these types of games. do the same shite over and over again in a grind to reach some "endgame state" where you proceed to do the same shite over and over again.

I agree with the basis of this sentiment, but what shooter do you think captures the variety of gameplay really well? I think the most important thing to get right with shooters is to have the gameplay inherently challenging and satisfying since it by nature will get somewhat repetive.

did you play Titanfall 2's campaign? that's the first example that comes to mind right now. every few levels, they will introduce a new mechanic/gadget that you have to use (it's a lot like a zelda game). i dont even want to spoil it. just pick it up for like $5 and play it. if you have xbox ill send it to you. one of the best FPS campaigns in recent memory

it's harder to keep things fresh with MP games. thats why Overwatch was appealing to me for so long, constantly adjusting characters, shifting abilities, adding new characters/maps, etc. It all loses its luster over time though. Hope Apex is the next thing to hold me over for a while.

Solid answer. Loved Titanfall 2 and it sucks that it’s so hard to find matches now for MP.

Finished my trial and returned my pre-order. Even after 10 hours its clear this game isn't finished, which is a shame because the good parts are great fun.

scathing thread on r/games

quote:

Here is an overview of the actual Anthem content:

- Crappy Carbon Copy Quests

- Dull Dungeons (Strongholds)

- RIDICULOUS Loading Screens

- Lacking Endgame

The 3 strongholds are also extremely underwhelming. Here's a quick description of each:

- This is the stronghold everyone played in the demo. It’s got a lot of fetch objectives.

- A whole lot of fetch objectives here as well. This stronghold has also been shown in almost its entirety on the developer live stream before launch.

- It's just the last story mission again... No changes made.

In addition to this, the free play in Anthem use the exact same components for its “world events”. There are also multiple points at which the game tells you to perform tedious tasks around the world such as “collect chests”, “get melee kills” and more.. The first occurrence of that is one that locks you out of story progression and forces you to grind for 2-4 hours.

After you finish the game you are immediately presented with another one of those “grind lists” LINK to image, no spoilers. The tougher difficulties unlocked later on just increase the health and damage of the enemy, the percentage increases are given to you on the difficulty screen. There is no additional content in the endgame currently, just the previous content at a higher difficulty.

It's not just the gameplay that suffers from this shallow design, but also the story. This is not like the BioWare stories from their previous titles that a lot of people were hoping for.

Anyone with a pre-order still has time to cancel, and others hopefully inform friends who may have preordered the game. The full launch is not until February 22nd. I for one would have been disappointed if I had preordered this for $60-$80.

Please consider all of this before putting your money towards Anthem.

Several gems from VG247 as well

quote:

Anthem is an example of where the industry is heading and I’m not a fan at all.

Here we have a triple-A game that’s clearly been put together by talented people, yet it feels like it’s been designed by a board room full of grey-skinned men in £2,000 suits.

It’s a loot shooter where all the loot is variations of the same boring shotguns and assault rifles

what would a game from the creator of Mass Effect be without player choice? Anthem. It would be Anthem.

You fly to a mission, shoot stuff, occasionally hold X on something interactive, head back to the hub, swap your mech’s crotch from chrome to rubber, then head back out and do it again

The customisation is clearly designed to push you towards spending real money. Even then, there’s barely anything to tempt you.

a team game where there’s barely any teamwork

I went into Anthem with an open mind. It’s a game I wanted to succeed from a studio I’ve always been fond of. Unfortunately, it’s everything everyone feared at reveal. It’s a hollow experience that’s been designed to appeal to the widest market possible while squeezing more money out of those who are hooked in by its doggy treat design.

Anthem’s biggest issues can’t be fixed with a patch.

Cancel yall's preorders of this trash, and don't buy it a year from now. this dev behavior is unacceptable and should not be rewarded. TRASH

Jesus had no idea it was in this bad of shape. Haven’t they been working on this thing for like 6 years too?
