Beat Super Mario Odyssey last night and did a little bit of exploring in the Mushroom Kingdom, and back to Moon Kingdom to shop. I need 7 more Power Moons for 250 which I think unlocks a new Kingdom. But, I also got Donkey Kong Bananza in the mail yesterday. Should I do more in Odyssey or drop it and start DK?

I think I know what the responses will be...

I've had Bananza for nearly a week and have only played it for about 20 minutes. Fantasy Life i has been much more engaging. I'm about 10H into that one.

The initial “i need to buy this” impulse has passed for me on Bananza. I was never interested in it then when it released I saw all the reviews, watched gameplay and thought “oh man I need this now” but in the back of my head I knew I wouldn’t play it very long. After waiting a few more days, my desire to play it has diminished a lot. Like I always knew it would.

Donkey Kong Country was great but I’ve never been huge into the DK franchise

Yeah, Donkey Kong Bananza is effectively a Mario Title launch and for all intents and purposes is better than Mario Odyssey. The big bright side is they’re still working on the actual Mario game, which is rumored to either be Super Mario Kingdom (would be Mario’s Breath of the Wild) or Super Mario Universe (successor to the Galaxy series). So we get that around this time next year, Switch 2 is off to a damn good start.

That would be my trigger to buy the Switch 2.

I was not a fan of Galaxy. I know people loved it, but I didn't really love running around the spheres and hated the motion controls. It might be because I only played it on Super Mario Allstars on the Switch. Maybe the original console version was easier to manage.

Walked through a Walmart outside of Knoxville last weekend and they had a couple in stock - snagged em both - one for me in the truck and one for my sister's family. Voila! Christmas shopping for all of them done in one easy stop.

Bowser’s Fury is allegedly a test run of it, but the Mushroom Kingdom would be as large as Hyrule in this iteration, so that would be fun, although I do love the Galaxy series and would be thrilled if they made another Mario game from that cloth.

By the way, hoping the Mario Kart World DLC is simply Donkey Kong Bananza courses. Just that a landfill happens somewhere on the map and you go from there. Three Cups and two Knockout Tours Courses:

Lagoon Layer
Canyon Layer
Freezer Layer
Forest Layer

Resort Layer
Tempest Layer
Radiance Layer
Groove Layer

Feast Layer
Forbidden Layer
Planet Core
New Donk City

That’d be pretty great.

EDIT:

Also new racers:

Diddy Kong
Dixie Kong
Cranky Kong
Grumpy Kong
Poppy Kong
Void Kong
Kremling
K Rool

I'm not even sure how the game would work on the switch, at least not easily. So much of the game is based on the wiimote aiming at stuff on the screen. I can see why the experience/gameplay on the switch would be a pain.

But yea, loved both of the galaxy games. I still have the wii and wiiu just to play a lot of the first party gamecube and wii games.

Oh.

I honestly have not detached the joycons since I bought the Switch... same now with the Switch 2. Always just used the pro controller.

DK Bonanza is excellent for the most part. It feels more like a Mario game with some inspiration from BotW (shrines). It does get a bit repetitive and kind of goes on too long to the point where the novelty starts to wear off.

Mario Kart is basically Nintendo's Madden at this point. Would not have bothered with it if it wasn't the pack in title. They shot their wad with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Nintendo is going to have their work cut out for them to catch up. The inevitable Switch 2 Smash Bros will have the same issue. The "open-world" is a net negative and drags the game down in multiple ways.

I played the demo for Wild Hearts S and it was the first game that really reminded me that I am playing a Switch. Take that for what you will.

I am currently trying to decide between the Bravely Default Remaster and Guardians of Azuma.

Yeah, I have to say that MK8 is better than MK World. I love the Knockout Tour, but the courses are not nearly as good since they’re way too dependent on connecting with other courses. The Grand Prix you really only do a single lap around the courses barring the first one.

They need to immediately (even if they go kicking and screaming over the idea of MK World) do a Classic Grand Prix DLC as well as stop transition courses on VS Mode. There’s a reason why Knockout Tour has way more players than VS Mode online, and they need to cut the shite.

I’d just rather they do Super Smash Bros Ultimate Deluxe, add another 20 characters, maybe a new Subspace Emissary, and then you’re good.

Anybody else downlad the demo of Elliot

Pretty good game, giving me 2D zelda vibes, definitely prefer this style over octopath

You think? I prefer the challenges and just cruising around for 10-20 minutes at a time exploring the world.

During the races, there's too much shite going on to appreciate all the hard work they put in.

DK Bananza takes a couple of hours to get going, but once it does - it is a ton of fun.

You have to get 102, get Pauline, Bananzas and unlock some of your special powers, but it's fantastic.

I need to knuckle down and play through to unlock Pauline.

I mean, might take an hour if that if you try. She’s unlocked on the first level.

I recently re-started Bloodstained since it was stupid-low on an eShop sale last week and it totally sucked me in. I forgot how pretty that game was. SOTN is my all-time favorite. I forgot how unforgiving the boss fights can be at first. Zangetsu is handing me my arse on the regular and I just got into the castle.

The undiagnosed ADHD part of me needs to kill that mofo before I can pick up anything else in earnest.
