Starfield is dying a slow death

Is this good? Per some comments on Reddit, the big Skyrim modders have already given up on Starfield, too.

Don't know. I think it's weird they're comparing it to Skyrim. How many single player games measure up to Skyrim long-term?

After peaking at 330,273 concurrent Steam players shortly after launch, Starfield is now down to just under 9,000 (via SteamDB). By contrast, over 25,000 Steam players are currently playing The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

That says it all. Skyrim is over 12 years old.

I liked Starfield more than most but as of now it just doesn't have the staying power of Skyrim or Fallout etc. I would rather replay New Vegas or basically any of the Fallout series than play more Starfield as things stand right now.

About 7K now, Fallout 4 has 15K.

It's not ideal, but like I said before, they are going to keep working on it and it will bounce back.

It was a victim of the hype machine and, my word, Todd, just too much open space. I like their idea of giving the player everything so they can do whatever they want, but when only 10% (or was it 20%) of the planets will have actual game content, with the rest being procedurally generated, people are going to get lost and bored.

I found a second life with it because I started picking up bounties and faction quests and sticking to the places they want you to go, and I'm having a lot of fun. But I get the blowback.

Really hoping they start to pare it down for TES and Fallout going forward. People really like the random content you produce, Bethesda. Just don't make it this hard to find.

They were literally calling this Skyrim in space. This is Bethesda's bed and they are having to lay in it.

I wonder where people got that idea.

At least Skyrim was like "frick it if you don't like the supporting cast (who were barely there anyway) you can just do whatever alone.

While Starfield allowed you to run solo if you wanted, you still had to interact with the rest of Constellation, who at best were unrelatable and worst insufferable.
Sam the Cowboy was really just a fricking crybaby with a child who did nothing but get in your way.
Sarah was a bitch, but at least she was freaky.
I shouldn't have to have gay sex with the black guy just to unlock the best ability in the game. Thats ridiculous.
The Russian chick..... She's aight lol

That is reasonable description from a gameplay perspective. Doesn't mean we should expect it to pull Skyrim numbers long-term.

Regardless, the user numbers will shoot back up once the expansion is released.

The game has been out for less than half a year this was supposed to be a needle mover for Microsoft. As pointed out itt, Starfield was hyped as “Skyrim in space”. The big modders don’t even want to work on it.

If more people were realistic about this game, it wouldn’t get the blowback. But when they’re calling it GOTY, a 9/10 at worst, a console mover, Skyrim in Space, etc. is why these threads/topics will keep appearing.

Don’t forget “it’s easily GOTY and if you say otherwise I can’t trust your opinion”

They haven't released mod support yet.

They haven't released mod support yet. Just like with Fallout 4 and Skyrim, they're releasing mod support the year after release (aka this year). There is currently no official mod support whatsoever.

ETA: You don't have to believe me, Bethesda said so themselves in a reddit post. LINK

I interpreted your comment wrong the first time. Thought you were tryna say mods don’t exist.

Anyway my point still stands as of now: modders aren’t interested. Maybe they will in time.
