Maybe they should not have given this project to a mobile game developer.

On the one hand, horrible news. On the other, I was very concerned from jump once I heard more about the developer.

I wish they would completely scrap the "remake" and get a solid company to do a faithful remaster over the course of a year or two.

There is still the very good IPAD port of the original for less than $10 on the apple store

That’s the best Star Wars news in years, but eventually Disney will desecrate KOTOR… it’s the only thing they know.

I own the original on practically every platform that it's available for.

The Switch version has better controls but a worse framerate.

I mean, it isn't as if the original won't always exist.

The remake being crap doesn't really affect my enjoyment of the original game in any way.

The original is becoming progressively more difficult to play on modern hardware. I think the concern is that a shite remaster/remake would then tarnish the original game, as it's the only version a large number of people would have played.

They are sitting on a windfall of money and they won't get it done

KOTOR 1 is available on Switch and on mobile devices. The PC version does need some attention though.

I can see Aspyr updating KOTOR 1 on the PC like they did KOTOR 2.

I can see how a poor remaster would tarnish the original, but I see a remake and the original as two separate games, especially if the gameplay is quite different as the KOTOR remake would appear to be.

Square Enix has already shown exactly how to do this. In fact, FFVII Remake’s combat system was perfectly suited for adapting to KOTOR.

Troubled Star Wars Video Game Remake Shifts to New Studio

quote:

The highly anticipated remake of the video game Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic has a new developer after a bumpy ride.

The project, formerly in development at Austin, Texas-based Aspyr Media, is now being led by one of Saber Interactive’s Eastern European studios, according to a person familiar with the change who asked not to be identified because the details are private. Both developers are owned by the Swedish company Embracer Group AB, which obliquely referenced the pivot in a public statement last week. A representative for Embracer didn’t immediately have a comment.
