I'm looking forward to Konami's remastered release of Suikoden I & II. It's for Xbox one and PS4 but will also be playable on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X.

I have all of the original five games and tactics for PS1/2 that I've played in my PS3, but excited for ability to play over on new systems.

The Suikoden series and Phantasy Star IV along with Chronic trigger, the Breath of Fire and FF games were always my favorite RPGs.

Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition

DRAGON QUEST XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age

Trials of Mana

Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch

Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom

Dragon Quest Builders 1 & 2

I still haven't figured out which FF I would like to spend the money and try it.

I'm currently playing Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition which I'm 63hrs in and would consider this a near perfect game for the action JRPG genre. There's also Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Xenoblade Chronicles 3 none of which need to be played in order since they are not chronological or take place in the same universe.

Not sure I like the previews.

DQ11 is the best! Weapons never break and the sword kicks arse!

I'm absolutely in love with Dragon Quest 11. It's the granddaddy gold standard of JPRGs.

Gameplay is spot on. Music is awesome. Monster design is top class. Story is great. If you want to play casual, it can do that. If you want to play hardcore, turn on Drakonian quests and it can do that.

I'm only about 20 hours in. It's my first Dragon Quest and I love it.

This video covers it pretty well imo. Tales of Symphonia is the JRPG that got me into the genre, so it's sad to see such a poor release to one of the best JRPGs of all time. There are a whole plethora of issues, such as poor upscaling, horrible voice acting and SFX audio quality, and using the inferior version of ToS (the PS2 one) in this remaster. From all accounts, the Gamecube version is still the best way to play this game 20 years later which is absolutely inexcusable.

Also, if you want arguably the best strategic JRPG gameplay out there, get Fire Emblem Engage. Unfortunately, the story is horrible, but the gameplay loop is so addicting that the story doesn't even really matter. I just wish Intelligent Systems could combine the team who wrote the story for Three Houses with the team that designed the gameplay of Engage

Any JRPGs remove the high fantasy element and focuses on humans? I am kinda tired of the "end of the world" story and battling monsters that are the stereotype.

Looks like Triangle Strategy has magic but is a little more grounded with a human focus and little to no monster interactions.

Any others come out in recent years?

First 6 or so chapters were just one long cut scene but once it opened up it turned into one of my favorite turn-based games ever. Pretty light as an RPG but the characters, humor, setting etc were fantastic

That’s kind of the JRPG style. Some take a more character focused perspective but mostly you end up killing God. FFX does a really good twist on this, focuses intimately on the characters journeys, and knowing the backstory of the big bad he’s not a god at all

If you have a ps5 there are so many jrpgs out there. And with ps plus you have access to a bunch for free.

A couple of the dragon quest games, a bunch of the ff games, plenty of demos too.

Yeah, Triangle Strategy has what you're looking for. It's monster/supernatural enemy free with the big bad (human) guy changing by your choices and perspective.

There are magic users, but that's the extent of it. Storyline is mostly human conflict and politics, more in line with FF Tactics or FF12.

Just made it to disc 3 this morning on LOD. Having a blast. Such a great game. Only minor complaints are lack of magic can make battle repetitive and having only 32 item slots is so fricking annoying, constantly having to drop items to open chests, I’ve pretty much just started ignoring chests at this point

I noticed ps store has all 3 wild arms, I’ve never played any of those may dive into them next

Its definitely not a traditional JRPG with turn based combat and random battles, but Nier: Automata is one of the GOATs.
The combat style is more akin to what you would experience in the FF7 remake. Awesome story and very satisfying gameplay mechanics.

That game came out of nowhere for me! No spoilers but when the credits rolled and I realized I wasn’t done...mind blown!
