I got super sick last week and never got past the first episode of Nioh... I might end up buying Horizon and not playing Nioh for awhile, I feel like such a tool

This has more absolutely glowing reviews than any game released so far this year, and probably all of last year, too. Yet you're picking the singular bad review out of 50+

You just don't want to like this game. That's fine, I guess

Combat is supposed to be great, which has me pumped

Read my subsequent posts. Or you can cry about it some more, I guess. The negs in that review are worrisome, but very opinion-based. Like I said, if you like foraging for shite and looking for collectibles and shite, that's fine. I don't, and that reviewer doesn't seem to either. Most worrying part is the stale quests though

It's been on my Amazon wishlist since the very first trailer. Sorry I'm not big into confirmation bias and reading only good reviews

I mean that review sounds like it could be for any open-world RPG ever

I'm not a huge fan of crafting or grinding for better equipment either (easily my least favorite part of Witcher 3), but I'm sure you can largely avoid the systems if you want (like in Witcher 3).

The stuff about the story and side stuff is more concerning, but both are getting good reviews elsewhere so I'll go in with an open mind

If the combat is good, I'm sure the game will be good. Too many open-world games struggle with core gameplay (why I dislike Bethesda), but according to every review, fighting robot dinos is great. I'm pumped

The only combat complaints I've seen across the board are with the human enemies. They said the robots are much more chaotic and fun

Carson, the Witcher is a great game and I love it but 70-90% of the quests are the same.

It usually involves a fetch quest at its core and it can have multiple locations and maybe a monster or bandit fight or two.

That's literally most of the game.

Calling horizon out on its stale quests is not merited.

Hell, im a huge FF fanboy who loves XV, yet the quests are all the same there too.

Throw Skyrim or FO4 in there for good measure. Fact is that you have little true variation in open world games when it comes down to it. The main difference becomes the core gameplay and combat system, and story . It looks like horizon nails these

Carson's favorite game is the one that hasn't been made yet.

When did I bring up Witcher in here?

It comes down to whether you can mask the repetition, whether it be through a plot that is meaningful, the introduction of a little gameplay quirk, or a change of pace mechanic/change of setting (like a unique map). Most of Witcher's quests are built the same way, but the stories around some of them make them feel meaningful. Obviously, the little blips are indefensible.

Example: Instead of going find a monster that killed a village (most games), you find out it's another Witcher that slaughtered them after they attempted to kill him rather than pay him. You hear his story and motive and decide whether to fight him. That masks the fact that it's just another hunting quest. You actually kinda feel bad for the guy

Side missions feel good when they have interesting stories and well-developed characters. Games like Far Cry and shite have dogshit side quests because you don't give a frick about the people involved and they mostly involve going to a blip on a map. I just don't want Horizon to have that. I don't want quests to go get the golden leaf for some random tribesman

Grabbing Nier before Horizon

This is my boat. No need for another big game at the moment when Nier comes out shortly after.

Spent a decent chunk of time reading some reviews, man I cannot wait for this. Appears to be everything I was hoping for, and goodness those 4K screenshots look so damn jaw dropping.

This may end up being my favorite release this year, unless the God Of War 4 rumor/leak is accurate with a 2017 release.

All the reviews seem to say the one main thing for me in a game, that the story is phenomenal.

Boom.

I have the 65" Samsung KS8500 (same thing as the 8000 just curved).

Highly recommend the KS8000 line, best bang for buck out there and it really isn't that close.

As far as gaming goes it also has the lowest latency in game mode of any 4K HDR tv on the market.

I still have my old plasma, it developed the green vertical lines in 2 spots so I never even bothered to resell it. Pissed me off but gave me a good excuse to buy my new one.

I'm a huge Elder Scrolls fan and Fallout is right up there too
They are definitely repetitive

But maybe that's because I beat Oblivion and Skyrim atleast 20 times each.
I find that older games were far less repetitive than current games.....
I found Oblivion to be better than Skyrim as far as storyline and factions go.
The factions in Skyrim seemed watered down to me.

Fallout 4 got extremely repetitive.
"Hey go take this settlement..
Okay thanks.
Hey this settlement needs your help
Good job
Hey this settlement needs your help
Good job
Hey this settlement that you just helped is under attack again
Good job
General, the girl that was kidnapped 5 times already just got kidnapped again. Go help the settlement
Good job"
Repeat

Nuka World was pretty badass. I have a season pass for the game but I never even bothered with Nuka World because I didn't think much of it. I just don't like how they wanted you to go in and take over settlements that you already got with the Minutemen.
Maybe I'll do another playthrough where I'm a raider

that's why I didn't specifically say skyrim or fallout 4

but imo they're less repetitive than far cry or dying light, the two games I'm afraid zero dawn is like
