There are reddit sites that help with the decisions. I was able to conjure up a King Cobra as my patronus.

I ended last night's run after talking to Weasley at the end of my first day, but had spent most of the game time running around Hogwarts and discovering things.
The school is absolutely HUGE. I'm looking forward to heading to Hogsmeade tonight.
I am doing the same, just running around and finding all of the guide pages and chests. I'm currently at level 12 and the quest I'm on is a level 4.
My only real complaint about the game so far is that the map sucks. The minimap is fine but the actual Hogwarts map is atrocious. Everything else is great though. I'm loving it after ~6 hours.

Finally get to dive into it tonight. I am currently in a extended stay hotel so it has been downloading since Tuesday night.
It had 4 hours to go as of this morning, last night i was able to play the prologue and just from that I can tell this game is going to be something special. It made me stop when it got the Title Card so it could finish downloading, that was a kick in the nuts

I got Slytherin on my second go at it and my patronus is a Eagle

Played for a few hours last night and man, it's awesome! Can't wait to get back into it this evening!

Agreed. I like the look of the flue map for fast travel, but would also like a full version of the mini map to better see what's around me.

Same here. I'm a completionist with games like this and it's giving me all the warm fuzzies so far from that angle. Combat is super fun so far but I can tell I'll have to fight the urge of button-mashing and spamming spells. Simpler the better it seems.
Up the Hufflepuff!

I'm not that far in and trying not to spoil myself for plot so I honestly did not read the thread so if this was answered already, my apologies - but can someone help me understand what's going on with all this gear I'm picking up out of chests etc.
This is like some World of Warcraft new expansion shite where I can either look like I go to Hogwarts or I can look like I was yeeted through a flea market and I can't tell if the bonuses to stats is really worth all that or not.

Took me awhile to figure out that most of the "gear" is just cosmetic skins that you pick up/unlock. If you hover over equipped items in the appearance screen it gives you an option to change the appearance.
Not sure if that helps, but I'm pretty much just throwing on anything that is a stat boost for now and changing a few skins.

It's not as intuitive as it could be.
There are two aspects to this: the stats you can get from gear and the look of the gear. In other words, if you like the look of a lower-level item, you can keep it while getting the benefits from the higher-level gear.
In your Gear section, you'll notice the categories are represented by icons which look like cards (headwear, robe, etc). If you click on the card, you can change which item you are wearing/getting bonuses from. BUT... if you just hover over the card then hit the F key (PC) instead of clicking on the card (I think, it says it on the card when you just hover your selector over the category card) it will bring up a different menu which allows you to pick the visuals of the items you've collected (this will allow you to tailor your look independent of the item you're wearing due for stats).

Yeah, that's a better explanation. If you played any of the Assassin's Creed games, it's a lot like that. Get the stat boosts from upgraded gear, but keep the cosmetic look of other stuff if you like.

That helps a lot - I was REALLY hoping I was just missing the option to change the skin, because some of these items granted fairly decent bonuses when I got far enough into the game to learn about them, but I was not going to run around the castle looking like Luna Lovegood's trash heap cousin.
ETA: Got it working on PS5 (Square button when hovering over on main gear menu after gear is selected). THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH!!!

I've only messed around with that a little. Do you know if you have to keep the transmog item in your inventory to be able to use its appearance, or can you sell/delete it once you've acquired it?
Game is gorgeous. I got to Hogsmead last night and ran through that. Boy the game is meaty. I had not realized how much RAM it uses. Overall still ran pretty well. Going to tweak some graphics settings tonight and try and take some cpu strain off, but overall running on max settings it played great.

Are you talking about transmogrified items? I haven't made it to that class yet but if I understand the question correctly, it shouldn't matter.
I haven't gone to Hogsmeade yet (that will be tonight), and I'll be selling stuff there (full inventory gives me the sads) so I'll find out for sure then. BUT... if this game follows others then once you unlock a style then you keep it regardless of if you still have the item any longer or not.
Styles are usually handled like this: there is a database in the game listing all the styles, it's a simple binary system where something like "1 = has the style; 0 = does not have the style" (that's not actual computer language, but it gives you an idea). When you get an item with that style (like "Wire Framed Glasses", for example), the system changes the marker for that style item from 0 to 1.

You keep everything you ever picked up in transmog. Apparently you should sell all your gear that you have outleveled because inventory space is limited and money is hard to come by according to people that have made it further than me.

, once I saw that I just operated under the assumption that she was always female and moved on.
that shite was and is embarrassing. It's like they had the voice actor record their lines over the phone and didn't tell him what he was supposed to be voice acting.
Great game though.
Never read a single Harry Potter book and only sat through the very first movie and only bits of the 2nd and I am pleasantly surprised and enjoying it a lot.
If you are a fan, the game is probably a total joy to play. Even a casual observer like me can tell there is a lot of attention to detail going on and it was made with love. It's great and separates it from the usual paint by numbers shlock.
Sorted into Slytherin first try. I thought they were supposed to be the "bad guy house" but right off the bat everyone is cool. Everyone is posh and confident so maybe that's supposed to be bad? Idk. Haven't got far so haven't interacted with the other houses yet.
This game will 10000% get a sequel and I hope we can continue to play as the same character but older.
My only real complaint is that there's not much in the way of dialogue options in the protagonist is a generic good guy. Some options for being a jokester or being a cocky smartass would be nice.
Oh and the dragons in the intro were VERY kiddy and not threatening at all but that's due to the setting I'm sure.

At level 13 and just now unlocked flight via the broom and Room of Requirement. Loving some of the side missions that strike that perfect balance of being somewhat challenging but NOT time consuming. Flying around the map just takes the game to a whole other level for me.
Have to be level 16 before you get the Unforgivable Curses. But I’m having fun with the other spells as well. The more shite you get, the easier it is for me personally. Though, locking on to different targets should be easier…

It has been a long time since I've read the books or watched the movies....but I think everyone has normal people in their houses. It's just some jackasses can kinda play up the name/attitude of their house.
If I recall correctly, Harry Potter should have been in the Slytherin house but he convinced the sorting hat to put him into Gryffindor.
Yall are making me really interested in getting this game though. This takes place far before Tom Riddle/Potter, correct? Do they give a year?
