I'm still waiting on a response as to why you are saying this is new for Rockstar.

That is because you aren't getting "the game" on the disk. Often times, the disk includes only a portion of the game, and you have to download the rest. In other instances, there is almost always a day one patch that fixes performance issues, bugs, etc. Over time, new features are added, bugs are fixed, etc.
It's not like when you buy a movie or an album and you get the final version of the content.
This is all true, but if you have a physical copy usually you are still able to download those patches later if those games are removed from your platform's digital store. At least, that's been my experience.
You may not always be able to still download the game if you purchased digitally and later lost your hard drive or had to remove the game to make room for a different game.

For me to be the "contrarian" in this conversation, we'd have to accept the premise that gamers widely accept the move to games releasing with locked paywall content and no physical editions.
If that's where we are, that's a pretty recent development.
I gave you numbers. In 2023, 83% of all console game sales were digital. DLC's have been around for forever. RDR2 had content locked behind paywalls and it was released in 2018.

No you aren't. I already responded to this. You rejecting the truth does not create a requirement for me to respond again.

Locking side quests behind a paywall is new for Rockstar.
No one cares about cosmetics being locked behind a paywall.

GTA 6 isn't going to be removed from the digital store
Usually, the only games that are are those that are tied to some kind of licensing deal that is about to expire. Usually racing games or those that are tied some third party property the publisher no longer has the license for (ie. Spiderman, Transformers). Even then, you can still download the game provided that you purchased it previously.

Does anyone have a ps5 pro, and is the performance that much better than the base?
Boosie's feedback was spot on.
I have a Pro and can definitively notice a difference in some games (I play on a 77'' Samsung S90C), but the differences really depends on the game.
This site has a good chart showing the performance differences between the base PS5 and the Pro in several games:

Can't say I've ever met a gamer who likes digital only games. You're a unicorn, sir.
I don’t think I’ve owned a game on disk since I made the jump from Xbox one to Xbox One X.

frick the Zoomer generation. They’re the reason why Rockstar is doing this.

There's also a big difference in physical media for movies/tv shows and physical media for video games.
The picture and audio quality of a 4K disc is noticeably better than a 4K version that's digitally streamed, due to compression.
You don't have that issue with video games.
So for movies/tv shows I buy physical, for video games I buy digital (unless the physical is significantly cheaper) because it's much easier to switch games on the fly with digital.

Not sure how you could say this with such confidence. Rockstar removed GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas from digital stores when that garbage "remaster" trilogy was released. It is extremely common for games to be removed from digital stores.

Should also be pointed out that Rockstar hasn't stated they will never release physical copies. Just that there won't be any at release. Again, almost entirely because they are worried about leaks. If we are still here a year from now and Rockstar still hasn't released physical copies then yea, that is terrible. But feel like people are putting the cart before the horse here

Totally lame that they're not only locking extra missions and clothing, weapon skins, but actual programmed in parts of the game behind the ultimate edition paywall. I get certain expansions, but core material for the game being locked from launch is an abomination.

Oh sure that's obviously the #1 concern

You are correct the PS3 generation was the last generation where the actual disc is going to contain a coherent, playable game completely offline most of the time.
However the disc still has value even without the binaries in that it allows you to resale or trade the game, and it prevents your game from ever being revoked from your account or whatever. Even at it's worst it's a "get to download the game without purchasing it" token.
They want to kill off the resell market and also be able to bully people with bans more aggressively.
