Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look premieres on Netflix on August 27, at 12pm PT / 3pm ET / 8pm BST.

It will also launch on the Rockstar Games YouTube channel and the GTA 6 website six hours later, at 6pm PT / 9pm BT / 2am BST.

Neither Rockstar nor Netflix has not given any more information on the presentation or how long it will last.

“See an extended look at Grand Theft Auto 6, the next evolution in the groundbreaking Grand Theft Auto series,” Netflix’s official description reads.

Well, they can. They could probably set up a stand at a Walmart and charge people $50 a pop to hold an empty game case with the box art, and they would probably recoup their production costs.

ETA Also, the marketing campaign for 6 doesn't come close to what they did for 5. This has been about as lowkey as I've ever seen for such a highly anticipated game.

This sentence makes me irrationally angry. How do you put an article out without proofreading? Surely they have an AI they can run it through without even needing a proofreading function.

I'd say paywalling the trailer is in line with what to expect from this game. Nickel and diming at every turn to recoup the money they wasted on the bloated development.

Don't get me wrong, still going to play it, just a shame it's come to this.

So, they're just making you pay for early access for a trailer? How is that better exactly?

Who's making you do anything?

And it's Netflix, who currently has about a 325 million subscription base. It's not like they're asking its fans to pony up for MUBI account.

Don’t pay for it. You still get the same stuff. Just admit you were wrong about the paywall and move on.

This isn’t Rockstar nickel & dining the consumer. This is likely Netflix offering an absurd amount of money for 6 hours of exclusivity.

This is true. If it was not for YouTube, you would barely know a thing about it.

RS does not really need to advertise at this point, it is going to sell.

Nothing will ever beat the Vice City commercial with the opening riffs of I Ran "so far away".

See an extended look at Grand Theft Auto 6

So just more incredibly rendered cutscenes, or some actual gameplay mechanics on display?

- Pre-orders vastly surpassed Take-Two’s internal forecasts
- He expects the extended look on August 27 to offer “meaty” look at the actual gameplay
- Strauss Zelnick told him in an interview that when the extended look goes live, people will understand why they chose Netflix for the premiere and stated that it’s a “must-see event.”
- Schreier asked if it will feel like you’re watching a Netflix show, and Zelnick replied: “Yes.”
- This marketing strategy aims to reach a broader, non-gaming audience or people who might know GTA 6 exists but aren’t necessarily buying it day one
- Take-Two isn’t concerned about selling to a smaller audience, as the install base will be roughly the same as the install base was when we launched GTA 5
- Schreier also asked him if he has big plans for November 19 like holding a party or taking a break. To which Zelnick replied: “It’s ultra top secret at the moment , but at some point before then, I’ll be happy to talk about it.”
