"prophecy doesnt define us, it doesnt matter."
You abide/fight/submit to the prophecy, only to find that the prophecy doesn't matter.
feels sorta nihilistic, and that would track with Millenials being so post-modernist

Yeah every piece of media wants to be subversive now. I'm ready to go back to the fan service days. Let Kratos dual wield Leviathan and Mjolnir

Not everything has to be fan service, but treating fan service like a dirty word is among the reasons AAA gaming is in such utter deep shite right now.
And also Marvel, Star Wars, and Star Trek

I was also disappointed by ragnarok.
But I guess I’m too stupid to be mesmerized by critical acclaim and sales figures so I attempted to judge the game on its own merits. Oh well.

Ive just got to retrain my brain to measure quality through critical acclaim, dollars spent, and hype generated.
The merits of the actual story/gameplay or the product itself isn’t factored into the equation.

Nah dude, carson just explained how not liking the game makes you so much smarter than everyone that enjoyed it.

Fair, but some games are liked on the same merits that others might hate.
Some people may love the combat system of, say, Cyberpunk 2077 and others might HATE it with a burning passion.

I wanna step back and apologize.
I came across as a douche and to be honest I was just emotionally charged yesterday. We had to put our dog down so I was already in a poor state of mind and on edge.
I read some of your points and can see why you feel the way you feel about the game. I don't necessarily agree. I enjoyed the story and to be honest felt okay with the "boy" parts as I do felt like they contributed to his story.
However... I know some of you people are some neckbeard having people.

I specifically said it's mechanically sound and highly polished. That other comment was just in regards to the writing/narrative.
It's like ordering a steak well done - it's ok to like the story and the writing, but it's still bad

Sorry man, there is nothing worse. Take some time to grieve and then get another one, only way to feel better

There is quite a bit of subjectivity in assessing anything that could be considered a form of artistic expression.
Some stuff ultimately receives more praise and sometimes appears to have an objective quality to it, but ultimately it breaks down to each of us having our own tastes and forming opinions around that.
I sometimes get annoyed by the idea that something being popular or being expensive somehow makes it intrinsically good. Not always.
I wish ragnarok hit more notes with me than it did. I can still see some elements of it that are of high quality but my issues with the story make me less inclined to want to play it again.

When I platinum a game I struggle to ever go back and play it again. In my life I may have played a game through more than 1 time 10 times?
Mario 64, super Mario world, ocarina, Majora, uncharted 1-4. I can’t recall any others I’ve played through.

I used to be able to do repeat playthroughs of Bethesda games. Different builds and different narrative choices,
I have a harder time in middle age with responsibilities to find the time to do a repeat playthrough with most games. Work and family are too much to juggle.
Some games with built in NG+ mechanics and rewards for repeat playthroughs such as resident evil titles or souls likes, I might still do if I have the desire.
Heavily narrative driven games? It’s really rare.

Damn man
Respect
My pup is 11. He is in good health, but at the age I have to think about the inevitable.
When Duke dies, it is going to ruin me

Chronotrigger, too
I start Skyrim and New Vegas a lot, but usually just end up fricking around with mods and quitting
