At least a 1/3rd of the game. I don't remember which article I read, but it sounded like it might be spread out to seven episodes.

It took me like 5 hours to get thru Midgar in the OG FF7 and took me prob around 50 hours to beat the game. Mind you, this is doing all sidequests and the stuff to get Yuffie and Vincent. Not sure how much of that is padding tho, but that'd mean Midgar was only 10% of the game for me.

Really hope they take a deep dive into the other characters backgrounds. I’m sure they will if the made Jessie and the others stand out more. Was just thinking this because the fiancé and I were talking about how fricked hojo was and Vincent and Lucrecia...that whole arch. Man they could hit so much gold with this.

That's not difficult. Dirge of Cerberus went into great detail into the backstory of Vincent Valentine and Lucrecia Crescent. If you remember, she was very protective of Vincent because his father, Dr. Grimoire Valentine, saved her life at the cost of his own. Vincent feels guilty about Sephiroth because he didn't stop Lucretia from allowing Hojo to experiment on her son.

I would also like to see them delve into the following relationships a bit deeper than the original.

-Barret and Myrna, Dyne and Eleanor. (Corel)
-Cid and Shera.
-Yuffie and her family.
-Red XIII/Nanaki, his so far unseen and unnamed mother, Seto and Bugenhagen (If you recall, the reason Red refuses to acknowledge the name Nanaki is because he hates his father)
-Reno, Rude, Tseng and their new trainee, Elena
-Cloud and Tifa's history beyond just the fire and the water tower

Of course, the most important thing is MUSIC.

-Gold Saucer (Please please please have Yuffie annoy the shite out of everyone TeamFourStar-style)
-Cait Sith Theme
-"The Living Nightmare" (Vincent's Theme)
-"Descendant of Shinobi" (Yuffie's Theme)
-"Cosmo Canyon" (That tease when Red first arrives...)
-"Shinra Presidential March" (Junon Parade)
-"Sending a Dream into the Universe" (Cid's Theme which sounds an awful lot like Fire and Fury from Wings of Liberty - another reason Robert Clotworthy needs to voice him)

Right. I was just hoping they do include some of that if not all of it in the remake. I was just trying to inform a friend that has never played a final fantasy but bought the remake today about some of the lore and I started to get into everything you just posted but was like...well I don’t want to throw too much your way and just hope they give you the details in the remake in a way that makes sense.

I think Sephiroth looks a little more like Vincent than hojo....just saying.

And of course everything else you posted I hope they do also. Especially Cids.

They have an opportunity to really do this thing right. I hope to god they do so. For their sake and ours.

I really enjoyed this first installment, but this will remain the big question. SE seem to make some bonkers decision that screws up a narrative in every game it feels like recently.

Yes. This is the fear for most I think. This is a very delicate game.

I've stupidly set an unrealistic expectation for myself that Robert Clotworthy (Jim Raynor from the Starcraft series) will voice Cid.

I loved the look of Shinra building. Was a nice change from the slums.

I just finished it. I will say that ending was weird, but I think they just wanted Sephiroth to be more involved because while this is being broken up into parts, ending the game against Rufus and Motorball is kind of underwhelming to end a game on.

As it stands, at the very end of the game, the gang is comprised of the 5 members that left Midgar together about to head out to look for Sephiroth just like in the OG. And this game hit all the beats that was in the original Midgar section and added more to it (Jessie's backstory, Wall Market). Some of it was padding, like the train graveyard section was kinda annoying especially since you were trying to hurry up to get to Sector 7 since the plate was dropping but instead you go ghost hunting for a bit. And making some of the normal enemies like the Hellhouse and Eligor into full fledged time consuming boss fights was kinda annoying as well.

Going forward we'll see what the alternate time lines thing means to the story but I don't foresee them not telling the original story. I'm on the wait and see before judging like so many people are using pure speculation as fact of what will happen. But overall I really liked this remake and can't wait for more!

I've already had the big secrets spoiled for me, but I am curious to know how much Hojo and Jenova factor into the game. I've always found them to be way more interesting as antagonists than Sephiroth and it bugs the crap out of me that Seph is basically omniscient now. I guess he was kinda interesting before but I never liked how he became stronger than his "mother" in the original game, and after 20+ years of mythology I feel like his massive fan club basically compelled the writers to make him a Time Lord

Why do you say that? The meteor that wiped out the Cetra wasn't a ball of fire, it was Jenova. What the explosion didn't kill she did until the Lifestream itself killed her.

Sephiroth was always able to see and act through his clones. (The survivors of Nibelheim who were experimented on by Hojo)

If you recall, Hojo resigned from Shinra after the President was killed by Sephiroth in the original. In the Remake, he is very much still a part of the company.

The entire 2nd to last chapter of the game is Hojo and Jenova, they added a little more to the Shinra HQ where Hojo kept all his expirements and you have to fight them all while he observes you.

I think the big take away is not so much about Sephiroth’s power right now...it’s more about him changing destiny...not the crew.

Was the Sephiroth cloud fights another puppet that minipulated them into killing the whispers?....so just like we see Zack alive again.....the “real” Sephiroth can be back again to defy his fate and unltimatly succeed....or try to succeed...hince....Cloud join me...because I know if you don’t....you will be coming for me and you are the real threat.

I really don’t know, but the speculation is fun.

Found a review from a non-fanboy that I really agree with. Having not played the original in a long time, playing the remake was like playing ff7 for the first time again, and this guy's perspective is from someone who never played the original ff7:

LINK

He's cringey as frick sometimes but I think he nails the actual review.

I'm at 52 hours played in ch.11 on ng+. Hell house was a motherfricker.

shite I played the original a couple years ago and I still felt like I was playing a new game. Which is great. For me at least. Others not so much.

I didn't do all the side quests on the first playthrough. Didn't try to do much besides the story. I'm doing much more on the 2nd playthrough.
