I'm kind of surprised City of Heros/City of Villains hasn't been mentioned. I didn't play a whole lot of it because I was a WoW guy, but it had a pretty good following.

The campaigns haven't been great but the multiplayer has been some of the best Halo MP.

Reach is the best IMO, but I agree 4 and 5 are terrible games. Not big into multiplayer since Halo 2, so this is probably why I feel this way.
