Comes in the mail tomorrow. Only thing is I had a huge work report and haven't even touched Horizon.

I took off this afternoon, so death will be commencing in about 4 hours.

I played from 12am - 6:30am on my PS5 and...I think I'm the only person in the world who doesn't LOVE it? I HATED BotW (and this game has given me a lot of BotW vibes) and don't normally play a lot of open world games, so I guess it's not totally unexpected, but I really hope it starts to grow on me.
Enjoy my fellow tarnished!

yeah I found this spot too, wasn't too bad once you caught on to their hit & run tactics. I didn't fight the boss bc I had 4k souls on me and and hadn't unlocked the ability to level yet. Need to go back and knock it out

Currently downloading. Will probably go with Confessor class.

Are you one of those that hates things everyone universally loves? BotW is a fricking masterpiece.

Biggest FromSoft fan there is and I thought they kinda bungled the beginning with this. Tons of dense mechanic and item descriptions thrown at you in rapid succession, first enemy is a boss that's supposed to kill you, tutorial cave goes on a little too long/is a little uninspired/is too easy. Just wasn't as expertly executed an intro as Undead Asylum or Central Yharnam
Once I got into the overworld, I loved the feeling of going off the beaten path and stumbling into places like the coastal cave and catacombs. I think this is going to be a MASSIVE, even more massive than most people are thinking. As such, they probably flattened out the progression curve and deliberately tried to make things very slow to start. give people (especially newcomers) a better sense of progression. Think that the areas and enemies are going to get insane later on

Nope, not at all. But the weapon durability mechanic was f*cking AWFUL and really soured my experience. But yeah, I don't know, that game just didn't click for me.

Yup, those are all valid points. I've played another two hours and decided to look up some guides/tips and I'm enjoying it more now that I'm not wandering around aimlessly.
ETA: Oh, and when I stagger an enemy and get the "visceral cue sound from Bloodborne," what am I supposed to do? Is there a way to do a visceral-like attack?
Nvm, just did a light attack after staggering and got a visceral.
ETA 2: A couple of other things I really like:
1. It's SO easy to craft Furlcalling Finger Remedies for co-op. So much better than farming humanities/effigies/embers in past games. Seems like they're really encouraging co-op in this game.
2. Guard Counter is a really nice mechanic for sword & board bros.

I skipped BOTW for this reason alone

Most overrated game of my lifetime. I won't say it's bad but it is certainly not for me. And I have loved every Zelda besides this one.

So, I have Elden Ring but should I wait to start it for a PC patch?

PC player here. Some PC players have zero issues, others have more. The mixed Steam reviews are from some fps stuttering, which at first I didn't even notice. And only seem to happen around bosses. It didn't seem like a big deal until you are actually fighting and survival can depend on a very narrow parry window that you miss because of framerate issues.
A couple suggested fixes are:
- Set Windows power plan to Balanced
- Set performance to High Peformance in Windows Graphics Settings.
- Set Shader Cache size to Unlimited in NVCP. (This doesn't do anything since the games runs on DX12)
- Disable Microsoft Device Association Root Enumerator in Device Manager.
I'm skeptical that these fix any major issues other than clawback some fps for people with low end gear. A more detailed walkthrough on changing each of these settings can be found in this Reddit thread.
IMO most major issues are with people playing with outdated drivers.
ETA: Seems like I (and others) really only had stuttering around the first optional boss. Which may just mean the devs need to do some additional work on optimizing shader loading in that specific area.

Think I’ll wait for an official patch. Hate tinkering with stuff like that when I literally don’t have to for any other game.
I also bought this on Green Man Gaming for $50 so I cannot refund the game.

It’s not. It did nothing original in the terms of open world. It’s open world was in fact one of the worst open world experiences I have had in a game as a whole.
What’s even worse is that Zelda is built for open world...they just have to get it right by incorporating more actual dungeons into that open world...not the same re skinned atmospheric mini puzzles. The mechanical dungeons lacked atmosphere as well.
Now it’s a simple fix really. Just keep to the core temples that are built around and into the zones..that each have their own feel and atmosphere.
Gannons castle...is the perfect example of what they should have done with about 7-8 temples and a few mini temples. That’s what I wanted. That’s Zelda.
TLDR; Imagine OoT in the BoTw world. That’s what needs to happen. shite doesn’t even have to be OoT, Link to the past, twilight princess or any other Zelda title that is a better Zelda..which is quite a few.

I have had zero issues on PC in about 3 hours of play.
I have a 3080ti and a Ryzen 9 5950x, though. I also feel like much less than that should be good enough to play this game w/o issue, though.
I've loved it so far. It feels like the Bloodborne successor I've been craving, but in a huge open world.
I killed a random solo mob on a cliff and a giant fricking bear-monster came out of the ground and one shot me.
Felt like an appropriate welcome to an open-world FromSoftware game.

Got revenge on some rats, found a treasure chest that was actually a trap. Teleported me to a very bad place for my level.

Yeah I have a 3070 and I've had only minor stutters when loading new assets, otherwise totally fine
