Private equity historically has been great for the companies that have been acquired in those portfolios. Being stripped for spare parts and sold off.

Bullfrog, BioWare, Westwood and the various other EA subsidiaries destroyed or otherwise mishandled by EA’s management are probably laughing at this turn of events. The ol’ karmic uno reverse card.

I tend not to get too worked up about EA’s output so it will be interesting to see how it plays out.

the Saudi's have a lot of money, maybe Madden will be good again?!

More likely to make FC great again given their interests.

Private equity is arse, but the Saudis are a different kind of PE - they want access and compliance.

On a small scale, I don’t think this changes too much about EA over the next 2-3 years. On the large scale, this is about backdoor access to the major sports leagues globally.

Not sure how they could possibly make EA worse, so hopefully this is a good thing for the gaming industry in the long-term.

It's an excellent investment for the Saudis, the Ultimate Team format with FC, College Football and Madden doesn't appear to be slowing down anytime soon.

They've already basically monopolized the sports card market by buying Topps and paying off all the major sports leagues for the licenses.

Welp, no more nose ring mafia Vielguard-type games. Well done, ladies/man ladies.

No. I'd say future Battlefields might be though. BF6 looks awesome.

After what they did to Dragon Age, nothing of value was lost

Exactly. Not sure why anyone would be disappointed by this news. Hopefully these private equity buyers want EA to put out games that are actually worth playing.

This is a great opportunity for 2K to get the NFL license and CFB licenses

Funny enough it was the NFL that pushed for exclusivity when EA wanted a cheaper, non exclusive deal.

We're talking about EA here. What exactly have they been doing lately that would make you want to keep the status quo?

That's not what they said. I don't necessarily hate the buyout, as I'm hoping it means PE will sell off some of the IP to other companies. I'm simply laughing at the idea that PE does anything in the gaming industry other than to try to leverage or liquidate valuable assets to turn a short term profit, then leave the corpse behind.

Silver Lake Partners, which is involved in this deal, helped Dell to reorganize as a private entity and then return as a publicly-traded company. Hopefully they are able to do something similar with EA.
