Does the new NIL deal potentially move up the release date for NCAA football?

I’d heard at first they were planning to release the new game in 23 or 24 but could this be bumped up with the new likeness laws? SIAP

MAYBE 2022 but I doubt it. They have to put a team together and work out the contracts and shite. Since there’s no CFB players association, they probably need permission from each individual player.

Maybe I'm wrong but the NIL should only make it more expensive for game companies to make the game.

They now must pay schools for licensing AND players they want to promote

this is pure speculation on my part but I’d guess they come up with some lump sum they pay to every university for their players and they split it accordingly

I imagine EA sports already had a deal in place with the few colleges it used in the last few seasons of Madden. Just use that existing contract and add the rest of the NCAA D1 Schools.

Best solution would be give every player a free copy of the game, and the players have the right to opt out.

Nope.

If they get development right, this is a cash cow for years with minimal improvements.

If they frick it up, it is yet another dead license EA pissed away.

The players will be greedy. They don`t want a free game, they want money. Some will be making more than some of the coaches.

I would be fine with just numbers and let the fans do what they`ve been doing since editing was allowed in the games.

I think the NIL thing makes it less likely that we get another NCAA game with likenesses.

That would work - you'd just have to avoid the image and likeness as well as the name. Can't do what they did last time and have a player with the same height, weight, jersey number, haircut, skin tone, and skill set but pinky swear it's just a coincidence.

I'd guess the 5* guys will want a fat paycheck and will be "QB 12". Lower profile players will want to be included in the rosters and a free copy of the game is a nice bonus.

So will all the teams have the correct rosters or will you still have to do the operation sports deal?

This is why I'm not optimistic about a new game coming out anytime soon.

As you said, with no association of agreed representatives, you'd legit have to negotiate with every single player in football on an individual basis (which ain't happening).

Hopefully they actually fix the base coding of the game and don't just use the shitfest that is the Madden code.

90 scholarship players per FBS team, 130 teams, at $60 per copy. That’s $702,000. That’s assuming you could get every player to agreed to have their name and appearance in the game for the same price.

They are probably going to need some sort of way to produce extra revenue in the game since the last few years of the series were only selling a million or so copies. I wouldn’t mind if they sold uniform packs for teams, so you can use historic uniforms in dynasty or online. Some schools have a treasure trove of uniforms to pull from and I’m sure their fans wouldn’t have a problem dropping a few extra dollars to play with them.

OBVIOUSLY these guys aren't going to get the money NFL players get, but if this is any indication whatsoever, even at 1% of this, you're looking at multiplying that $702,000 by three

quote:

With the CBA approved, the NFLPA informed players they’ll finally get their “Madden checks” that had been held in a work stoppage fund. The 2017 active player payment is $17,662 and 2018 payment is $16,966, to be paid out ASAP. $1K for p-squad guys. 2019 payments paid this fall.

Granted, they do have a players association that can collectively bargain this stuff whereas the NCAA does not (yet), but I think they should just put every team in the game with a bunch of 10 foot tall blue players so there is zero chance they can claim that their NIL was used

Their best bet is make random players and then allow someone to make rosters.

This prevents having to pay the players shite.

Yep, the economics of this says it will be far too expensive to make this happen. Especially if they would want to churn one out every year.

The only way they’re going to be able to do it now it’s just put their foot down and offer a standard amount per player. Say a copy of the game and 100 bucks for your name image and likeness.

Cover athletes will get more.

Which college athlete doesn’t want to be in the game?
