The PS1 is when the Metal Gear story took hold as a deep state/larger than life story and lasted throughout the PS3 games.

I enjoyed the story but at times felt like a pawn running around doing someone else's bidding. All goes with the story though I presume.

It one of the most impressive gaming universes imo. Unfortunately its hard to put the story all together when playing the games. I've played them all except Peace Walker but still have to refer to Metal Gear Wikis to get a lot of details. The timeline goes back to around the end of WW1 with the creation of the Philosophers. Their money, power, influence and infighting shaped warfare in the 20th century.

Yes, 1-3 stories were amazing. 4 was pretty good, just goofy (but well told). the rest were too goofy for me

The actual stories of the game or 1-3 are amazing. I can’t keep up with how timeline is and how many snakes and bosses there are.
It got beyond itself

Isn’t the idea that you are a pawn the entire time. Doing the bidding of “the patriots”

It’s been quite a while since I’ve played.

1-3 were great. I enjoyed POOPS and it’s canon afaic. I loathed 4 for a long time. Peace Walker was great for character development. V was so horrible, I gained a newfound (albeit grudgingly) respect for 4. I treat V like bad fan-fic. Yes, I filleth my cup with cope.

I loved the story in MGS1 before MGS2 ruined everything.

You thought MSG2 ruined it? I thought it gave great context to how my really snake is just a pawn and your actions will ultimately change nothing. But that’s me maybe I misunderstood

It’s like a fever dream but I enjoyed it well enough for what it was.

The GW AI glitching out during the codec conversations in mgs2 was a chilling prophetic vision for what online discourse would eventually become.

There is only one boss at any time. When The Joy died, Jack (Snake) became Big Boss.

Snake was the wild card in Sons of Liberty and the weapon used by (Twin Snakes) and against (Guns of the Patriots) the Patriots/Zero.

S3 has multiple meanings as well. Aside from what was stated in MGS2, the S3 in Army units is the operations cell and the designated title of a unit's COO.

It had a great story. One of the few games where I'm disappointed when the cutscene ends and it's time for actual gameplay.

It gets convoluted but still fun all the way through to the end of 4 which is all we can ask for. It's a fitting and conclusive ending to the entire series

5 is not a game for people who enjoy the MGS story. It's just something else in the same universe and it really only fills in some time gaps we don't know about.

To this day I think MGS2 is still the true brilliant spot of the series. The message about propaganda and information control so well done and it started before the game was released.

I can’t express how much I love the Metal Gear Solid series. All of the games are amazing, but Snake Eater is my hands down favorite. Also you have to hand it to Guns of the Patriots for tying up all of the batshit crazy loose ends left by the 3 games before it.

Phantom Pain fixes a major flaw in the original. There was no way Big Boss could have survived Operation Intrude. Turns out he didn't.

It was great until V… man what it could have been.

Maybe the most disappointing game for me made, sad MGS will never get a true ending.

Depends on which version of MG one played. On the NES, there’s no indication BB lived. On the MSX2, BB says they’ll meet again.

Of course, thanks to V’s “retcon”, one could interpret that utterance as coming from Venom saying, “You got me, but you’ll face the REAL BB later.” However, either way, BB always survived Intrude. Been canon since 1987. It’s certainly a plot contrivance, but it was never a plot hole.

How much of that is due to Konami firing Kojima before he could finish the game?

MGS did get a true ending though. Guns of the Patriots ends the series.

I think that was the entire reason why

Yeah MGSV was a prequel anyway. While the prequel wasn’t wrapped up the story in general was.

Story was all over the place but I still found it a pretty enjoyable game gameplay wise
