How stingy should I be with things like chroma catalysts?

Just take your time and always be on the look out for openings in geometry or ladders/grapple points.

Always check high and low. Also your F key that engages enemies can also be used to break objects that might obstruct paths.

The lower tier ones you can use liberally as you'll get a lot of them. In the end game though, there are only a handful of perfect catalysts that allow you to fully max out your weapons. Those end game ones are the only ones you need to think about.

Is this going to be flagged for me at some point? If not, what kind of visual cues should I be looking for?

It is the baseline upgrade unit.

They are level limited.

When you get better gear you will need like Pristine chroma, etc

I don't remember how rare the drops are. I think you can purchase them at some point

You can't unlock this ability until you find some of the lost Gestrals.

You'll need to take note of structures that look like this in early stages:

Once you gain the ability to break them go back and destroy them.

Dark Souls has me fricked up on upgrade material. Not that you can't eventually get all you want, but man you can frick yourself over by using all of the early available materials on a dogshit weapon

Use early mobs to work on parry and jump timing

Ok, so party counters and jump timing: I farmed one of those big (for early game) double shield thingies and I could not, for the life of me, handle either move. I tried earlier; I tried later. I couldn’t even manage to dodge the jump on the couple of attempts I made at it. What am I missing? I could still obliterate it, but I can see it becoming a problem later.

There's a pretty distinct sound effect, once you recognize it it becomes easy and you can do it with your eyes closed

Jump timing in particular is EXTREMELY forgiving. Parry is tighter

Jumpin is easy as hell. It can get rough when mixed into like 12 sting attack combos for 2 moves when you’re looking to parry the other 10.

Idk if you’re on expert but most wthings will one shot you if not doing all non essential things. I have played and beating the game so many times my builds have mostly shifted to PURE glass cannon with inverted and more plus energy anything to always have AP. I very very rarely miss parry’s anymore to almost anything. Simon, the big guy in the ocean even though he dioesnt hit had by like 38, rarely Renoir part of the 6 hit combo where he slashes from distance.

I can’t wait for new contact I neeed stuff that can kill me bigly once more

came in to see what the fuss was.

seeing you are starting up this.

man, enjoy the ride....this game...masterpiece.

my advice? Decide what type of play style you want to lean into. i liked speed and heavy intro damage. a helluva lot of my fights led to me being the first to attack and devastating the enemies before they could respond. Not very fun, but effective.

What are the general build options? I’ve intentionally avoided looking at that, because I knew I wouldn’t be able to stop myself but drown in the detail

Finally moved and settled into our new place after about six months. I’m about to fire this up and start it myself. I’ve avoided reading anything so far (except a bit of this thread).

i only know a few and it kind of revolves around character choices.

For example my go to was have one character be the AP generator, he would go first
second character was the damage buff/enemy debuff
then the third rotation character was my nuclear bomb. She would wipe out most shite instantly.

I've seen some very specific builds catered to around having your characters in weakened stats to force strong buffs.

im probably not the best to ask about specific varieties, i found what worked for me and ran with it :)

there is an early game weapon that's easily missed for one character that breaks said character. but i don't wont to spoil anything for you if you don't want that. it would not be a heavy story spoiler but still im being cautious.

One character is kinda expected to be your damage dealer. It's pretty obvious who that is when you have the full team. But pretty much everyone else is wide open on how you want to use them - damage or support.

And since every character gets a ton of weapon choices each with different buffs and everyone can be respec'd from scratch fairly often, you aren't locked in to specific builds. You can trial & error until you determine what works best for you.

I had one character who dealt nuclear damage to one enemy from the start of each fight, one who could deal above average damage to multiple enemies but needed a couple of turns for their weapon to meet the correct damage dealing criteria, and then my third character was strictly support to set up the other two.

This first boss is pretty tough, but I’m getting better at parrying, albeit slowly.

Currently carrying L. on my boy, which seems solid, but didn’t appear missable. After some very careful searching, I assume the Med. acquired by Ma.?

One of the biggest single advice things I’d give for anyone struggling parry’s or just wanting to become untouchable.

Two word. Sound ques. They’re there for literally every move that can be with the traditional party mechanics. Often subtle sometimes seriously so sometimes overt but especially on expert learning these is paramount. You’ll do it a lot naturally by osmosis but imo actively finding them especially for hard fights is a huge boon.

They like to trick your eyes a lot with awkward combo timings but the sound ques for when to act will always be correct

If someone just can’t get what I’m saying since so much other noise is happening lenme know I’ll show or tell you with some early examples
