other than people in this thread talking about prices, has anyone who has actually played this game have a review?

Nope, all I did was list the Steam prices and the dude irritated me.

I just posted the Steam prices in the first post. I've only seen the prices on Steam. I wasn't arguing it couldn't be found elsewhere cheaper. My info and post was only based on Steam prices. I meant I had never seen it cheap on Steam.

The under a rock post was uncalled for and it made me not like that dude whatever his name is. I wasnt trying to argue.

I said if it could be found else where , that's fine, link it. No big deal. Never said it couldn't. I was saying Steam didn't sell it cheap. Sounded like he was saying Steam had it cheap and I was for some reason lying about the prices.

It's all good. Let it die. No reason to keep doing this in the thread. And I acted juvenile.

Civ 5 with the added culture, religion, spies, tourism, and added eras was WAAAAAY too involved. Is it more scaled back like vanilla civ 5?

I'm having a very good time with it so far, but unless you have the money burning a hole in your pocket…I would probably wait until a few patches get dropped to clean up some things. I got it on Xbox, FWIW.

Pro's:

-The game is beautiful.

-I love that resources now add different boosts to your cities instead of a generic “amenities”.

-The Army Commander unit is a solid addition and makes moving multiple units across the map much easier.

-No more worker unit, which means a lot less tedium.

-I enjoy the new district/quarter system

-I also like the new influence system. It makes more sense to me as an accruable resource than faith and makes diplomacy more interesting.

Con's:

-#1 for me: Not a fan of the ages system in its current version. Too many things reset between ages, IMO, and the turns leading up to a transition between ages are janky and need to be more fleshed out. It does sound like they are taking a step in the right direction with the next patch because apparently city states will stick around between age transitions. So that's a start.

-A lot of buggy-ness with the UI. Considering the feedback I've seen, I'm sure that's high on their fix list.

-Customization options are severely lacking. 5 true map types and no maps larger than “standard”? Whack.

-As far as I can tell, there's not currently a "re-roll" option. If you're not happy with your start, you have to go back to the main menu and start a new game (unless I'm an idiot, which is possible)

I think they have a solid, not great, base game. I'd expect it'll be a much smoother and deeper experience in 2 or 3 months.

Fired up civ 6 two weeks ago in prep for civ 7 launch. Was having fun on civ 6.

Bought civ 7, played an hour and requested my refund. Thank you steam!

Went back to playing civ 6 and having fun.

I enjoy it so far. The thing I’m accepting is that it takes many many hours to even understand how to play these games. Which is easy for me to forget after the hours that went into 6

Yeah, I've progressively enjoyed it more and more as I've played. Which is a good sign. I've even started to kinda be okay with the ages system as I've come to understand it more and how to prepare for age switches. (I've also learned that switching the age lengths from "standard" to "long" makes the age transitions much smoother and less jarring).

I personally like 7 off the shelf more than I did 6 right off the shelf, so I suspect it'll be damn good by the time all is said and done.

I am enjoying it but do recognize the many issues at launch.

This is the first civ game i have bought, played it a friends house years back.

There is a lot to unpack, lot to learn, lot going on. But i like it. I actually like trial and error and learning mechanics.

I get lost in the game and come back out 4 hours later. Wife doesn't like that.

Still haven't made it through a exploration age and into a modern.

I’ve been playing as the United States with President Stacy abrams but I can’t ever seem to build enough solar panels to not die from climate change

With that option the capitol city also requires 5x food intake than normal citizens.

Windows Central just published a list of top mods here.
#1:

Sukritact, a member of CivFanatics since 2010, currently has the top-rated Civ 7 UI overhaul available. This mod makes it a whole lot easier to see what's been built in your cities, including what tile production and which buildings are obsolete or ageless. It also forces unit icons to be displayed horizontally rather than stacked upon each other. There's a lot more here that I'll let you discover on your own.

#2:

Moxl's Map Search solves the problem by adding a small search field to the minimap toolkit, allowing you to type in practically anything relevant and have it be highlighted in the main game screen
