Although it's buried in the snow, this doesn't look like a School of Wolf medallion, so that could be a good indicator it won't be focused on Geralt, or even Ciri. Looks like maybe a Cat medallion?

There were rumors Ciri’s child is the focus.
Given how far the game is likely from coming out, they might not even know yet

Apparently cdpr confirmed it's a new school, school of the Lynx.

Why preorder anything in the days of digital download??

After a bit of searching, this was the least offensive thread necromancy I could manage. But I just have to say...
Jesus frick, TW3 was great. I had been putting it off for a long time, as once I read the books, I wanted to make it through the first two games. Just finished Blood and Wine, and I can't fathom a better ending after that journey. Truly incredible gaming experience.
With that said, not only do I hope that the next game doesn't involve Geralt at all, beyond making references to him, but as much as I want to fire up a NG+, I feel like I can't, because I want to let my boy have a well earned break for a little while

Greatest game of all time. I haven’t been that engrossed in a game until this year when I picked up forbidden west. Most games have decent enough stories but I had never really played one where I absolutely couldn’t wait to see what happened next like witcher 3. Amazing story line, I was hooked after the quest with the witches in the swamp.

I would say easily top 3 for me, maybe number 1. But frankly, that becomes an exercise in futility for me. Ultimately, what's more impressive to me is that it was the greatest full media experience I've ever had. After having read the books, I didn't think the games would really do them justice. Frankly, I didn't even understand how the games were going to continue the story.
For now, I'll sidestep the issues of whether someone "needs" to read the books to fully enjoy the games, and say something far more unusual: no one should read the books unless they plan to play the games, but particularly TW3 all the way through B&W.
When I finished the books, I never planned on reading them again, with the exception of rereading a couple of the short stories on occasion. It's clear either that Sapkowski isn't a great author, the translator to English wasn't great, or both. Good, not great. But now? I just started the books again. That's how much the game(s) made me fall in love with the characters.

You play Witcher 2?
Not as good as 3, but pretty good. That is, If you can beat the tutorial

If you like card game puzzles and additional lore. Thronebreaker is a good game.
But... you have to enjoy something similar to Gwent. The card game is better than Gwent but if you hated Gwent, you won't like Thronebreaker.
If you liked Gwent, then a RPG version with a solid story and Witcher universe lore makes it a solid fun game.

That is cruel. The whole point is to lose the tutorial.
That dumbass tutorial is the reason I didn't give the game a chance until 2020.

Read all the books and played all three games with all DLC. According to Steam, I spent about 87 hours playing 1, 42 hours playing 2 (and that wasn't my rushing, the game is just short), and thus far, 170 hours playing 3. I imagine I'll probably get to 200 before I begrudgingly end this playthrough and start NG+.

You're a fricking dick

And I would say, yes, 2 is pretty good and well worth playing. I wouldn't put it even close to being in the same tier as 3, though. With that said, I absolutely think people should play 2 if they plan to play 3. Playing 1, in my opinion, is more of a chore and vastly more "optional". The shift in combat system between 1 and 2 was so jarring that I stopped playing 2 because I was getting so frustrated and intentionally put it down long enough that I would mostly forget the combat in 1. I don't recall feeling more insulted in my life than when the tutorial in 2 suggested that I should play the game on Easy

1's combat is what I would call... rhythmic? For lack of a better description. But very simple. 2 moved to souls-like combat, and it was a hell of a shift. 3 keeps combat roughly the same, but makes is vastly more forgiving, even on higher difficulties. So between the combat systems being fairly similar, and the fact that the narrative in 2 is not only referenced heavily in 3, but knowing what happened in 2 explains why people, from named characters to the random peasants, treat Geralt the way they do in 3.
Anyway, this post is long enough as it is. Ultimately, if people enjoy the world and want to get the most impact out of playing 3, they should read every book and play every game. But if anyone would be interested in my either explaining why I feel that way, or to chop things up in priority, I would be happy to do so.

I was initially planning to wait for that, and then I gave up

If you’re on console, you’re stuck with what you have. If you’re on PC, the modding community is massive, and there are some really impressive graphical updates mods. Not that the base game in PC looks bad at all, because it doesn’t. But you can really make it sparkle.

So is it Geralt again or are we going to make our own Witcherino this time?
His shite got wrapped up in blood and wine. Having a customizable one seems like a natural progression.

There’s a massive chance that it ends up going a completely different direction than what I’m about to reference. With that said…
In the reveal, the medallion was (later) confirmed as belonging to the school of the lynx. Which doesn’t exist in canon, but does exist in a fanfic. Obviously, spoilers abound: LINK
While I couldn’t care less whether they stuck to the details of that fanfic, I think the basics of it would actually be an excellent springboard for new games.

The last of us 1 may have had a better story but 2 was a better game.
Well they’re in the midst of a full remake of 1, so it will end up being both the better story and the better game

That’s crazy that Geralt is a black lady in this one

All three Witcher games fall into what I would classify as "Eurojank."
I've started Witcher 2 and 3 many times but never could get past the control/feel. And that kind of thing is right up my alley...Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Skyrim, etc...
I did really enjoy the show on Netflix.

Any particular issue you had trouble with?
More for 3. Like I’ve mentioned, combat in 2 is just fricking hard at the beginning of the game
