Best strategy to beat Wizpig on Diddy Kong Racing Nintendo 64

This shite is frickin hard. Who's got the rundown on how to take down the pig?
I hit all the turbo pads with the green flames but can never seem to stay in front of him. Seems like you have to pass him at the last second to win. I've read online that the chicken character you unlock by running over the frog is the best to use and that does seem to help but not enough to get it done

Let off of the accelerator before each turbo pad. It makes the boost stronger.

As a kid, I always thought Diddy Kong Racing > Mario Kart 64.

Diddy Kong is still my top racing game of all time. So many memories with my bro.

The first Wizpig race is brutal and the second one (in space) is just bullshite.
The first one, you basically just can’t mess up. At all. And you have to get the extra turbo at all the pads by letting off the gas right before you hit them.
There’s also a little trick that tapping A at a certain pace can make you go *slightly* faster. Hard to master though. You can find YouTube videos on it.

That’s possible, but difficult. But, I mean, the whole thing’s difficult.
His AI intentionally speeds up and slows down at various point through the race rather than try to rubber band like the rest of the AI’s, so the best time pass him I find is usually about halfway around the course and then you need to haul arse for the first part of the next lap.
Once you build a little bit of a lead it basically just becomes a matter of not screwing up at all and hitting every boost.
