Has to be the PS2/Xbox/GameCube era, right?

Seems like that was a time where the games had the best gameplay because it wasn't all about online play, but also when the graphics started to look realistic.

Halo really defined that generation and forced everyone to step their game up. But Nintendo didn’t perform at anywhere near the same level as the N64

A bit off topic but I was googling and reminiscing on old PS1 RPGs and they absolutely crushed the game from about 97-01. Final fantasy 7-9, saga frontier, xenogears, legend of dragoon, vagrant story, grandia, legend of legaia, breath of fire, suikoden, chrono trigger (95). I could go on and on

This

Even the PS2/GC/Xbox are starting to look more outdated than the SNES/Genesis.

360/PS3/Wii

Xbox360 had a ton of great games and a great online environment. The free games with Xbox Live Gold was a nice bonus as well. Wii is one of the top selling systems of all time and brought in lots of new casual gamers.

Glad someone else said it. I think the 360 library is on par with the PS2. The Wii obviously was revolutionary.

Although I enjoyed the X360 better, I can go with the above for one reason.

No Day 1 patches and DLC. They had to sell complete and finished games.

It is funny how they say ET killed Atari, yet every game released now is incomplete and buggy.

For nostalgia reasons, I've gotta go with "whatever was out when you were a kid". My PS4 Pro outperforms anything else I've owned, but it can't capture the magic of playing when I was a kid.

I love the ones/Genesis era but n64/ps1 has some of the goat games, and the transition to 3D was interesting and fun to be a part of

Yeah I feel like I missed out on the PS2 growing up. All I had was guitar hero and sports games my brother got. My main gaming machine was the GameCube, which is very underrated.

Started playing on classic NES and we truly are living in the golden age for video games. The amount of games available and variety is spectacular compared to previous generations.

Maybe but you have FF7, 9, MGS on it.

And the other side you get OoT, Mario 64, DK64, GoldenEye

The jump from 2d to 3d was an exciting time

Not a single generation so I’m cheating a bit here, but the window from the release of GoldenEye through to the salad days of Halo 2 were, as far as I’m concerned, the absolute pinnacle of console gaming.

The system itself was fine for its time. The issue was with the technology of that generation.

Just barely good enough to produce 3D graphics for the first time.

Just barely good enough to give you acceptable disc reading speeds.

The first generation 3D systems (N64 and PS1) are in hindsight an extremely awkward period for video games and thus those games tend to hold up less well than other eras.

When those systems were current gen, they were great though because that was the best we could do at that time.

the 360 also had a badass controller. the sticks were smoother, and the extra weight from the battery pack made it like a tank. they felt indestructible

my biggest gripe with the xbone is how cheap the controller feels. even the elite
